Free Music Review: A non-negotiable five stars for this one
Hit: 5 Stars

After Live at BB King Blues Club and Official Bootleg USA '06, two live releases from Beck that were expensive and varied in quality, it's definitely an early Christmas present to receive a new, reasonably priced, and consistently hot live set from this king of the stings.

The expected tracks are here, and the set list mixes it up enough so that even if you do own the other two live CDs, you're not getting a "re-tread" here.

Beck's post-Yardbirds success...with the possible exception of the first "Jeff Beck Group" featuring Rod Stewart and Ron Wood...has always been brighter in the realm of instrumental albums like Blow by Blow, Wired, and There and Back. On this album, he simply goes with his strengths for an unrelenting 70 minutes...and when you're Jeff Beck, those strengths result in a house full of dropped jaws. Buy it.

Hit: 5 Stars

You know that invigorating sense of cleansing & renewal you get after seeing a real great musical show? It's an indescribable feeling of elation and I hope you as a music fan reach this place as often as you can because it's a rarified treat for your soul. If you're in dire need of this sensation; of truly being impressed, cleansed & renewed, this Jeff Beck show will take you there, I promise...I have been an ardent fan of Jazz-Rock-Blues-Fusion since I was 13 years old and currently 44 with never a dull moment spent musically. What is witnessed herein may be the high water mark of all my dedicated years of fanship. The DVD is what you want to see; plain & simple. I hear the CD short changes some fun tunes that complete the esoteric musical journey. The DVD's the biggest bang for your buck and you can fold your friends and family into the mix with repeated viewing; It will likely be required. This is quite an eyebrow raising experience and it's not that it's just Jeff Beck, it's other worldly. That's all I can eek out at this moment in time because I'm still in absolute awe of what I just saw. Performing This Week-Live at Ronnie Scotts is suddenly that important of a scene. Be there, get it and marvel in it's impactful purity.

Free Music Review: So good, I bought it three times!
Hit: 5 Stars

I've already reviewed this album once but circumstances have led me to purchase it again, so I thought I'd have another go. I first purchased the album based on Amazon reviews and I wasn't dissappointed. I loved it so much I bought the DVD as well. I then lent the CD to a young, local guitar genius after we both went to see Jeff live in Melbourne last summer. Apparently the CD was well appreciated - so much so that I haven't got it back. Stephen, if you're reading this, you are welcome to keep it, with my compliments.
Now that I have a fresh copy, it is back on high rotation in my car's CD player. I must have listened to this CD over 100 times. I'm now very familiar with all of the little imperfections in the playing, but, mostly, I still get the hairs standing up on the back of my neck during those moments when Jeff and the band take you to a special place. The subtle nuances that only years of experience can bring, the sudden exhilerating changes, the breathtaking musicianship, the seeming effortlessness - I can't fully express how satisfying this recording is - you'll just have to discover it for yourself.

Free Music Review: Ignore the 1-, 2- and 3-star reviews
Hit: 5 Stars

First, perhaps the label (which released the DVD) intentionally left out the "guest" tracks in order to promote sales of the DVD. Maybe it isn't cricket, but it's been done before, and will be done again.

As to the quality of the recording and mix -- it sounds great on my Yamaha receiver and B&W bookshelf speakers -- hardly a high-end audiophile system, but good enough to get past the limitations of low end systems. So, if the mix sounds off, it just may be your equipment.

Finally, the performance is fantastic. Please allow an artist to grow over forty years, folks. I happen to like jazz and fusion, so the over-abundance of that approach doesn't bug me one bit. Besides, if you're a Jeff Beck fan, you've GOT to know the man likes to change it up: his entire career is one big metamorphosis!

Ignore the low reviews. If you're not into DVD audio, buy the CD. If you're into DVD audio, buy the DVD: they did a superb job capturing the show. I purchased the DVD first, then bought the CD because I couldn't get the version of iTunes I have to rip the soundtrack.
