Free Music Review: Jeff Beck is One for the Ages.
Hit: 5 Stars

Jeff Beck is a fabulous guitarist, easily one of the 5 finest guitar players I've ever heard and seen play live. He is a true musician who literally plays every note with the depth and feel of his entire being. Other reviewers have compared him favorably to some of the major jazz guitarists currently on the scene, such as John McLaughlin and John Scofield. In my opinion, those guys aren't even close to being in the same category as Beck. They're highly educated technicians, while Beck is a thru and thru musician. It's not about how many scales, arpeggios, triads, modes and chords a guitarist knows, it's all about how he moves the listener emotionally. Jeff Beck MOVES this listener. Conversely, many reviewers have rated Beck as more accomplished than Jimi Hendrix. A guitarist as uniquely gifted, adventurous, creative and innovative as Jimi Hendrix comes along only once. Beck truly moves me but Jimi sends me into another galaxy. Sorry but, in my humble opinion, Jeff Beck is no Jimi Hendrix. If you read interviews with Jeff Beck, you'll see that he's the first one to agree with me.

Free Music Review: Nothing Equals This
Hit: 5 Stars

In a modern music environment that is often overun with visual gimmicks, PR distractions like bad behavior stories and other marketing tools, there still exists some phenomal musicianship and creativity if you know where to look for it. If you look here, you'll find it. Jeff Beck has always been a "Guitarist's Guitarist" with a creative approach and attitude that is completely unique. He really displays that here. As usual, he has found some musicians that can meet the challenge with phenomenal talent of their own. These are people who do not pursue the goal of having an "act" or a PR gimmick. They obviously only pursue a steady passion for raising their playing and creative ability. The instrumental interplay is very impressive and the constant musical sense of the performance makes it even more interesting. Add to that, some highly talented guests and this mostly instrumental and diverse performance is just a great ride.

Free Music Review: World's Greatest Guitar Player?
Hit: 5 Stars

I don't claim to know who the "World's Greatest Guitar Player" is, but surely this guy is "among 'em".

I enjoy listening to albums/CDs of Clapton, Allman Bros, Buddy Guy, Hendrix, SRV, Roy Buchanan, and others too numerous to mention, but the difference to me is Beck's diversity. On this album he plays hard rock, but he also plays music from the late 70's fusion albums of John McLaughlin and Billy Cobham, similar to his own Blow by Blow/Wired period. Others take me back to Weather Report. Goodbye Pork Pie Hat(a straight jazz tune)/Brush With The Blues, reminds me of the Pink Floyd sound on Dark Side and Wish You Were Here.

Many guitar players speak of "singing" in their heads when playing. Jeff Beck's playing sounds like the great singers. Tremendous range with delicate precision; soft as Angel(Footsteps)or with the great power of Led Boots. This album is my new favorite of all time.

Free Music Review: A True Guitar God
Hit: 5 Stars

I've had the pleasure and honor of seeing Mr. Beck perform twice.
Once in 2000 and last week at the new Boston House of Blues.
Both times were just unbelievable,jaw-dropping performances.
This live cd captures his outstanding and out-of-this-world playing.
Backed by the talented Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, Jason Rebello on keyboards and last and certainly not least, Tal Wilkenfeld on bass.
Remember Ms. Wilkenfeld's name. This young, 23-year-old from Australia is a very, very talented bass player.
All his great songs are here, from Beck's Bolero to Led Boots, to the Beatle's A Day in the Life, which is just phenominal and my favorite Beck song Where Were You and many more.
If you've ever seen Jeff in concert this a great keepsake and reminder of how great a guitarist he is and if you haven't this will make you want to go out and catch him live.

Free Music Review: A must-buy for any guitar lover
Hit: 5 Stars

The Guv'nor does it again.

Beck has been consistently the most interesting and original guitar player in rock since his Yardbirds days, though sometimes held back by lacklustre material. Whereas many of his peers have been resting on their past glories, Beck has been on a constant and continuous development path, even reinventing the way he plays his guitar. He now stands in a category by himself, coaxing impossible sounds from his guitar that give a vocal quality to what he plays.

The tracks on the CD cover a lot of ground in Beck's career and a lot of musical ground: rock, blues, jazz, fusion, reggae etc.. all meld into a musical whole and are made his own. He is aptly supported by his amazing regular band, Vinne Colaiuta, Tal Wilkenfield and Jason Rebello.

Very highly recommended. You'll be hard pressed to find a more original musician anywhere.
