Free Music Review: Jeff Beck at the Top of His Game
Hit: 5 Stars

This could well be Geoffrey Arnold Beck's finest work to date, and it's all done live at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London. If you enjoy solo guitar-playing that is smokin' hot, highly nuanced, and utterly gorgeous then you're going to love this album. It is available as either a CD or DVD, and both will be worthy additions to your collection.

On this live date Jeff is backed-up by keyboardist Jason Rebello, drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, and the hot (in more ways than one) young Australian bassist Tal Wilkenfeld, all great players in their own right. On a few tracks in the DVD version Beck is joined by superb guest artists Joss Stone, Imogen Heap, and Eric Clapton.

This album is a delicious display of guitar virtuosity ranging from blues to rock to jazz and beyond. This is Jeff Beck at the top of his form, playing with great artistry and pure joy.

Free Music Review: performing this week..Jeff Beck @ Ronnie Scott's
Hit: 5 Stars

one of the best releases ever from Jeff Beck. Live @ Ronnie Scott's showcases his ability to cover rock, jazz, and fusion seamlessly. Every note and riff that Jeff Beck plays are with purpose & finesse'. on display is a crackerjack band, including the amazing Vinnie Coliuita on drums, and young Tai Wilkerson on bass.

from his 1st release in the 60's "Truth" , comes a majestic version of Beck's Bolero. every note played with a slide and each use of the whammy bar done purposefully. His cover of Beatles "A day in the life" is so stellar that this instrumental version finds one not missing the singing in the slightest.
An awesome "big block" almost exceeds the original studio cut from "Guitar Shop"

A true gem of a CD, Performing this week live@ Ronnie Scott's should be rated one of the top 5 releases for 2008.

Free Music Review: Jeff Beck Is A Peerless And Spellbinding Live Performer
Hit: 5 Stars

Intimate and very lucky audiences at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club were treated to a captivating and spellbinding series of concerts performed by Jeff Beck in London. The 2007 shows featured Beck's incredible eclecticism as he mastered jazz-fusion, blues and electronica fretboard genres. Poignant, ethereal and melancholic musical gems included "Were Were You", "Cause We've Ended As Lovers" and "Angel (Footsteps)". Beck's masterful, blistering and frenetic riffs highlighted "Beck's Bolero", "Scatterbrain", "Big Block" and the intricate "Brush With The Blues". Classics like "Led Boots" and "Nadia" further showcased Jeff Beck's nonpareil virtuosity. "A Day In The Life" was magically performed to perfection. Jeff Beck is simply the greated live concert guitarist on the planet. He does not even need a vocalist. His guitar talks, weeps, laments and roars.

Free Music Review: Something Else
Hit: 5 Stars

Jeff Beck is a rock legend (who also mixes in liberal amounts of jazz), but more than that: he is in his own category as an electric guitar player. He does not rely much on special effects (her refers to himself as a "minimalist" in that regard), but rather on phrasing, touch, and tone. He often finger picks and has a tremendous dynamic and emotional range for an electric guitar player. While fast, Jeff is no "shredder," but is rather the master of taste, passion, and (oddly enough) restraint--something unknown to (say) Joe Satriani or John Petrucci.

The mix is a bit muddy, though, and the drums sounds somewhat tinny (which may be the set more than the recording). There is some keyboard work, mostly synthesized. The supporting band is adequate (there are no vocals), but Jeff is the star. To my mind, he has never sounded better.
