Free Music Review: Perhaps, Best Album of All Time!
Hit: 5 Stars

First, What a Loss! What a loss! I am not the type that gives unwarranted praise. But I guess this is my small tribute to Jeff's Legacy. The legacy is that even after his death, he is still remembered and the music is timeless.

This Album is perhaps the best album of all time. I cannot think of a better one. Every song is well, just great. My favorite all-time album was U2's Joshua Tree but this has overtaken that. A lot of the themes are similar. Also, don't take my words for granted. Everybody check out his other recordings, Live at Sine', and Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk.

What sucks is that the current music scene does not have Jeff.

I actually did not start listening to his music until after he died. The album that I listened to first was 'Sketches' in 1998. I do not know how I missed his first album 'Grace'. Was I in left field or off the radar? But during the early 90's , I guess I tried to be more 'hip' than now. Maybe that was the problem.

My faint praise unfortunately will never change that fateful day in the river. Somehow, the bright lights seem to fade quickly. How sad! I think that we all search for 'greatness' and when we discover it , we want to hold on to it. We want to remind ourselves to 'Be the Best' that we can be.

Run, do not walk, to record store or download this off iTunes to get this masterpiece! Simply the best album of all time! Jeff, we love your music and it gives us 'the living' some inspiration and hope. And that is what music is really about.

Free Music Review: My new favorite album
Hit: 5 Stars

I'd been looking for a while for some music with the emotional and music depth of Pat Metheny. I didn't find anything until I came across Jeff Buckley.

Nearly every single song on this album has been my "favorite song" at some point during the past month. Every song is unique in its own way, with its own flavor and melody. Jeff Buckley's vocals are completely out of this world; even when wailing in the upper stratosphere he has complete control over his voice, running his bone-chilling vibrato all the way up through his 4-octave range. We have "Grace"--an almost progressive poppy piece with key changes and a driving beat. "Last Goodbye" is a tear-jerking song about leaving a lover--one of my favorites. His version of "Hallelujah" is so simplistic yet beautiful, with just soft guitar and vocals. "Lover, You Should've Come Over" has almost a gospel-like tone to it.

I could go on, but my point is clear: this album is a must. The expanded version is necessary simply because of the single best song I've ever heard: Forget Her. Buckley apparently took this out of the original 'Grace' and replaced it with 'So Real' (another classic) probably because he needed something that sounded a little different, but the vocals, chord progressions, and feel to the song gives me chills every time I listen.

Free Music Review: A Would Be Future Great Taken So Soon!
Hit: 5 Stars

We'll probably never know what truly happened to Jeff when they fished his body out of the river but one thing we do know is that his was a very rare talent and truly original with something new to say; something that we'll have to depend on his only album to get some inkling of but what an album!

One of the best ever debut albums with so much power and passion in the delivery, "Grace" has influenced a whole lot of people, music lovers and music makers alike. Jeff could count one Paul McCartney, Tom Verlaine and even Lou Reed among his fans.

In any case, the Legacy Edition is truly a must buy as it has a very well remastered version of "Grace" plus a second disc of great tracks showing Jeff's versatility as well as a very lovingly made DVD to show us the great man, gone before we could really learn more.

His story reminds me of another great musician Jim Croce and I suppose you could add Buddy Holly as well as talents that we can only wonder what if.

"Grace" is one great experience and this Legacy Edition is definitely worth the extra bucks for the DVD and 2nd disc.

Highly recommended.

Free Music Review: Where is the 10 stars when you need them!
Hit: 5 Stars

How tragic it is that the brightest star always burns out the quickest. It was indeed a sad day when the world lost Jeff Buckley. He certainly could have been the next Bob Dylan. His only proper studio release gets a major overhaul by the brilliant Sony/Legacy label. This thing is absolutely the most beautiful album ever recorded. I won't comment on the original album except for the fact that the remastering sounds amazing...and well, you should already own the original anyway!
The brand new second disc rewards the faithful with some trully stunning previously unreleased tracks. "Forget Her" is reason enough to get this re-issue. The other covers could have easilly fit onto the original release. The DVD is top notch as well. The "Grace" documentary is sweet sorrow...beautifully put together and thorough. Lots of insightful interwiews with the band members. Eclectic, breathtaking and simply gorgeous! I only have two gripes: Where are the lyrics in the new booklet? Where are the acoustic versions of "So Real" and "Last Goodbye"?

Free Music Review: "...I couldn't awake from the nightmare, it sucked me in, and pulled me under..."
Hit: 5 Stars

That hauntingly evocative line from "So Real" which became fatefully too real 10 years ago when Jeff Buckley drowned in the Wolf River exemplifies the mystically chilling experience of listening to Grace.
First and foremost one notices Jeff Buckley's voice---all 8 octaves, then maybe the stirring lyrical romanticism, and finally it'll settle in the wide range of his stylings.
From melodic rockers like "Mojo Pin" and "Grace" to the weeping ululation of "Corpus Christi Carol" and solemn hymnal of "Hallelujah" Grace is one of the most beautiful debut albums ever.
There's no filler to be found on this disc.
I actually recommend getting the Legacy Edition. The higher price gets you an extra disc of music and a dvd of videos.
The "road version" of "Eternal Life" at full blast is like a Mack truck crashing into your chest and atomizing you instantly.

JB is well on his way to becoming a legend and I consider his tragic demise the greatest loss to music in our lifetime.
