Free Music Review: A New Fan
Hit: 5 Stars

I've seen Jeff Buckley CD's in the bins for many years, and really had never considered them, but when I recently heard a few songs of his on MusicMatch, I simply got totally and completly hooked, so I went out and purchased everything that is available. Such a tragic story, but what a voice, and what wonderful music he has left behind. I decided to rate this CD rather than the other's I purchased, as it's my personal favorite, being a new fan. This CD is very intimate, and makes you feel like your in a small pub just listening to a local musician that you just KNOW will hit it big someday. Well apparently Jeff Buckley did make it big, too bad he's not around to witness the many new fans he has, and I'm happy to say I'm one of them. I strongly recommend anyone who has heard a song or two from this artist to buy this CD.. It might just change the way you listen to music for the rest of your life. I've seen a lot come and go, but this music is timeless because it can be described so easily.. TALENT

Free Music Review: It captures what those shows were like
Hit: 5 Stars

I was lucky enough that one summer night, some musically well-informed friends invited me to one of the Jeff Buckley shows at Sine. I had never heard of him, Club Sine, and had forgotten who Tim Buckley was. At first, I just saw a kid with an old Telecaster singing songs he liked. He performed some of the originals that appear on Grace, and some covers, including "Thank You" by Led Zeppelin. It didn't seem like history in the making, but several times I thought, "How did he make that old song sound so great?" and "he sure has a nice touch with that guitar." I tried to go back again a few times, but either it was too crowded, or something "important" would come up. Then, the gig was over. Finally, these recordings gave me the chance to enjoy his show again. The covers are all interesting, and some are beautiful. The talking tracks all offer some insight as to his talent, knowledge and growth.

Free Music Review: Frighteningly Beautiful
Hit: 5 Stars

More than six years after his tragic death, Jeff Buckley can still charm and awe you. The expanded Live at Sin-E is breathtaking, showing Buckley at his most charismatic and displaying the power of a voice unparalleled in modern music. The tenderness with which he delivers songs like "If You Knew", "Twelfth of Never" and "If You See Her Say Hello" is transcendent, as is his obvious devotion to singer Nusrat Fatah Ali Khan in a rendition of "Yeh Jo Halka Halka Saroor Hai." There are fun moments as well, including the double-CD's opening song "Be Your Husband," which Buckley accompanied only by a primal beat, or any of his monologues, which are interlaced with the music. All in all, the album more than adds to an already rich and growing legacy sadly left when Buckley entered the Wolf River on May 29, 1997.

Free Music Review: Can't stop listening
Hit: 5 Stars

I haven't been able to stop listening to this(and every other Jeff Buckley album) since I bought it about a year ago. It's unbelievable how good Jeff Buckley's voice is in and out of the studio. I bought this CD based on the strength of "Grace" and "Sketches," expecting it to simply be a nice addition to my Jeff Buckley collection. Needless to say, I was absolutely floored at how much I enjoyed listening to it over and over. I also love the intimate feel of the live recording. If you close your eyes you can almost feel him standing in front of you wailing away. The DVD is a nice little bonus as well. I can't recommend this highly enough for anyone who is even a casual Jeff Buckley fan. I, however, am not a casual fan, and for anyone as obsessed as I am about Jeff, you NEED this CD set. Period.

Free Music Review: Early Jeff Buckley
Hit: 5 Stars

It would be difficult for a new fan to warm up to this CD. Understandable. Its rawness makes it unique; it isn't often that a person can buy a recording of the early shows of their favorite artists. This is why the CD is so special to Buckley fans but its content is what makes it a favorite.

The covers are personalized with such an ease, one cannot help but wonder if fate brought the songs to him. The early versions of favorites like "Lover, You Should've Come Over" and "Last Goodbye" are valuable and beautifully natural takes. What might be most prized, however, is the massive amounts of dialogue cut in between songs. It shows a side of Buckley one would not know from just hearing his music. He was a comedic, talented, accessible person, one that is truly missed in the music community.
