Free Music Review: Well constructed songs beautifully performed

This is a terrific album which amply demonstrates both the strength of Jeff Hanson's song writing and his abilities as a vocalist. There is not a track on the album that is filling up space. I think each is a poignant reflection of the turmoil following the end of a relationship. There is strong thematic (lyrical) and musical (particularly in chord progression) consistency throughout, but the album is not repetitive. The melodies are both mellifluous ("Losing a Year" and "Long Overdue") and despairing (Something About). On top of all of this the album is one of the more original pieces of work released in last few years.

This songwriter has one of the most beautiful voices you'll ever hear. This is his second album for KRS, following 2003's "Son". Since then, he's toured extensively, including a stint with The Decemberists, and expanded his fan base. This release shows a darker side of Jeff, and his songwriting and instrumentation have grown.
