I discovered this CD in its 20th anniversary edition and I can't recommend it highly enough. As a fan of the writing and music of Leonard Cohen it is very rewarding to hear these feminine, expressive, and warm renderings of his songs. The bonus material contains some of the most moving material on the album. I will echo what one of the other reviewers has said: sometimes you want a real singer to sing real songs. Cohen is a much better poet than we can ever hope to get in pop music, but Warnes has a real voice. Cohen is prone to sing flat at times. His voice drifts downward. Warnes has a better instrument. And even if you didn't know who Cohen or Warnes were, this is a great record anyway.Free Music Review: Most amazing album AAA++++ Great

I had a copy of the CD years ago but loaned it to a friend. Never saw it again. It is every bit as good today as it was 20 years ago. This belongs in every serious collection of great American Music. This disc puts to shame what passes for music these days.
Sounds better on my AUDIOPHILE system than any other pop recording I own!

This is the best CD I've ever purchased. No one can top Jennifer Warnes' voice and her interpretation of Leonard Cohen's music is beyond belief. I love the song Ballad of the Runaway Horse. I had never heard that song. Now I'm eager to find Leonard's rendition of it too! You can't go wrong with Jennifer Warnes. The original album is still one of my favorites - the additional tracks are interesting but do not have the impact of the original cuts. Famous Blue Raincoat has some of the best lyrics and the music if as powerful. Warnes Voice is like liquid silver and even Cohen's voice adds a nice touch in Joan of Arc. Buy one or both versions.
