Free Music Notes for Jerky BoysFree Music Review: The first Jerky Boys release, and one of the best! Hit: 5 Stars
The Jerky Boys were my first exposure to the "crank call" CD phenomenon, and at their best, the Jerky Boys perform better than many of their crank-calling peers who have followed suit with their CD releases of their own. What I like about these Jerky releases is that most of their calls leave the person on the other line puzzled or bewildered. This, in my opinion, is what makes these pranks fun, as opposed to some of their counterparts (Musacha, Tom Mabe), who have a crass and mean spirit behind many of their calls. It's as if they intend to upset their victims rather than merely "play a prank." This is not to say that Los Jerkys have never made mean spirited calls that have turned me off..yes, they are guilty! But the majority of their work on the first three CDs have these rich and hysterical characters looking for the wrong kind of help in all the right places. Prime examples on this first CD would be the nasal voiced Sol Rosenburg calling to arrange an eye exam, Tarbosh "The Egyptian Magician" explaining in broken English his magic act to a club owner, and Jack Tors, the Gay Runway Model, trying to convince a talent agent that his performance art used in runway is appropriate! Prank phone call CDs are not everybody's cup of tea. If the cup of prank tea does sound appealing, and you never heard such an album before, this premiere CD by The Jerky Boys is a good place to start.
Free Music Review: The Birth Of The Crank-Call Boom Hit: 5 Stars
The Jerky Boys somehow managed to find great commercial success by making prank phone calls, and this is the album that started it all. It introduces just about all of their classic characters - Frank Rizzo, Sol Rosenberg, Tarbash, etc. - and their unique brand of off-the-wall humor.
While crank-calling doesn't seem like a sophisticated style of humor, the Jerkys manage to elevate it to a vulgar art form. John Brennan (the Head Jerky, if you will) has a remarkable knack for improvisation and off-kilter remarks. You'll laugh as Frank Rizzo calls someone 'sizzlechest' or 'rubberneck,' even if you're not entirely sure what he's talking about. While the album is certainly vulgar, it's not a mindless swearing fest - there's some genuinely clever humor to be found here. And Sol Rosenberg is quite possibly the funniest crank-call character ever, although this particular album is definitely Rizzo's show.
This is a must-own album for comedy fans, provided you're not easily offended. Albums 2 and 3 are also great; everything afterwards is basically wretched.
Free Music Review: prank calls done brooklyn style Hit: 5 Stars
still makes me laugh after all these years.2 guys from brooklyn prank call people from doctors to lawyers, convincingly.they are so good at it and they know how to do it to make it down right hysterical.yankee haters might not be able to appreciate this and too bad for them because they don't know what they're missing.my favorite moments are with sol,a woody allenesque nerd who has problems with his glasses, roids, motorbike, and a fascination with his shoes.other good moments are with the gay man and frank rizzo.the last track is also great about a man and his son who call a plumber expecting it to be their uncle freddie. good stuff folks, that everyone, ecept children of course, should check out for the laughs.
Free Music Review: My eyes are going crazy Hit: 5 Stars
This was the album that started the "crank call" album genre. True, there had been a few other crank call albums before this, but this was the first one that sold a lot of copies. The Jerky Boys on this album were Johnny B, Kamal and Lou Gitano (Lou Gitano did not appear on any of their subsequent albums). Most of the tracks here involve the Jerky Boys calling people up and saying things that leave the person on the other end of the line bewildered. Some of the Jerky Boys classic characters that debut on this album are Frank Rizzo, Sol Rosenberg, Tarbash, Kissel and Jack Tors. This is very funny stuff and is highly recommeded, but you should avoid it if you are offended by curse words.
Free Music Review: Don't be a Jerky Fan without it. Hit: 5 Stars
The first Jerky Boys cd is the perfect intro to their "art". Johnny B and Kamal are halarious on this one. This is the first one I heard and I just bought the rest as they came out. I heard about these guys in high school around the same time Sandler's "Laugh at you" cd came out. I knew I had to see what the deal was and bought the record without ever hearing them first. I wasnt disappointed but impressed. I find it side splitting today and laugh myself to sleep many nights listening to the calls. Buy it, in the words of Jack Tors - "The people love it, the people love it."
