Free Music Notes for Stop Staring at MeFree Music Review: "A lot of funky sh>t was goin' on, ya know?" Hit: 5 Stars
Just one of many fine quotes from JERKY BOYS 4, which was the last one I bought. I havent heard "STOP STARING" yet but the Jerkys have never really let me down. I heard many negative comments on the 4th record as well but its not that bad, in fact, mostly halarious. The Jerky Boys have a funny way of growing on you. Oh yeah some of the phone calls are obviously "staged" but it doesent make them less funny. My theory is that some calls are real and some fake but its like sketch comedy that way. I actually recognized a voice from an outgoing call on the first album again on an incoming one on the 4th. Its still all very funny and completely original. Im glad the Jerky boys havent quit making records and I suggest you hear this one for yourself. Okay, sizzle chest! - You do that!
Free Music Review: how do you say there, bottlenose! Hit: 5 Stars
the mere existences of crank yankers, telephone terrorist, et al., are proof enough to me that these guys are hilarious. after all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. one reviewer asserted that kamal isn't funny, and that johnny brennan "has his moments." well, he's funnier than kamal, but i must disagree. they both crack me up every time i listen to this album, and all of the others. my friends and i used to think it was because we are new yorkers (i recently moved, but will always have a ny state of mind), but there is a brit in these reviews too, and he loves the jerky boys. so their appeal goes even beyond the american culture. and the brit thinks i don't know what fawlty towers is.
Free Music Review: more than just a prank! Hit: 5 Stars
This is the first Jerky Boys album that I bought and I think it's fab. I listen to it as much as Fawlty Towers, Black Adder or Alan Partridge (US readers will have no idea what i'm talking about here) and I have no idea why people find it a tired collection. The characters making the calls are more important than the reactions of the callees - to me it seems like very few of the people are aware that they are on the end of a joke. If they do get suspicious, it doesn't really matter anyway. We listened to it on holiday recently and were quoting the damn think for the whole week. If you're disapointed with this you are either missing the point or entirely humorless. Wake up!
Free Music Review: The weakest of the bunch Hit: 5 Stars
This is the weakest effort from the JB's. Frank and Jack sound like they're on thier last legs material-wise, although Sol and Tarbash are still going strong. Big Ol' Bad Ass Bob makes a couple of appearances, but none of them are noteworthy. The two best cuts are Masturbation Box with Sol and Tarbash's Cab Trouble. The disc has some good moments in the beginning, but fizzles out towards the end. The dial-tone at the end of the last track might be a little prophetic. If the JB's can't get the spark back, this could be the last outing. Get back to making the calls at home instead of the studio guys. There's more life in it that way.
Free Music Review: More moments for the time capsule... Hit: 5 Stars
Your cheeks (on your face, I mean) will ache after listening to this CD. Among the best calls are "Special Delivery", "Willie the Jackass" (in which "Rizzo" wants to wear a "silly" Jackass suit in a "family park" (Disney) and drag the "ass side" of the suit behind him because "the back leg's a cripple"), "Tarbash's Cab Trouble" ("I not drive CAB! ") and "Send a Salami". At least 10 of the calls are hilarious.
