Free Music Notes for Degradation Trip Volumes 1 & 2Free Music Review: An honest work of art Hit: 5 Stars
An absolutely brilliant 2 hour and 20 minute Degradation Trip. Cantrell throws it all down here, creating a true work of art with brilliant harmonies and vocals, within a concept album that we haven't seen in the same form ever before. The guitars are heavy and biting, and then light and mystical. His lyrics are honest and artistic with a lucid vision of his Degradation Trip.Cantrell's vocals have never been more piercing and beautiful. His trademark use of humming and chanting over his harmonies and as melody is ever present in its purest form. He adds a spiritual dimension to his music that no one will ever touch. Starting with the superb verses of a Psychotic Break, to the honest, friendly party of Pig Charmer, Cantrell depicts a vision that is not dark and desolate, but simply the true reality of experience. Honest, inspirational and creative, this album will be remembered most not as a Degradation Trip, but as Jerry Cantrell's Progressive Trip through true artistry.
Free Music Review: For those who miss Alice In Chains....... Hit: 5 Stars
.......someone must be listening, and that someone is Jerry Cantrell. With his sophomore solo effort he makes a huge departure from the laid back vibe of Boggy Depot and churns out every sick emotion from his stomach in a visceral yet intricate exorcism that spans well over 140 minutes. While not sounding much like AIC, he still manages to bring out some of the darkest, heaviest, sludgiest music ever written, as well as showcasing Jerry's incredible song writing, a trademark of AIC that placed them in a class of their own that many try to reach yet often inadvertedly spit on, like Staind, Nickelback, and almost any other new "alternative/metal" band. Had Layne Staley been able to lay vocal tracks over this album it would have been cathartic (no offense to Cantrell, who is a great singer in his own right). Simply put, a comparison of this and any other album is laughable. There is nothing else like this. If you like Alice In Chains then you MUST buy this album. Music Review: Haunting Tales of a Degraded Trip through influence an drugs Hit: 5 Stars
This is basically the same as the other single release degradation trip, but the new songs make it worth the buy.Jerry Cantrell has inspired me to write and play guitar with releases of alice in chains, an degradation trip. For a while I could keep up with him but the way he plays and uses effects,on his newer release of degradation trip with the new songs, prooves he has talent beyond beleif.Like a Jimi Hendrix style with some. The new songs are all better than most of the others, but on Siddhartha,Pig Charmer,S.O.S.,and Thanks Anyway,he sings in the chorusy, like ways of the late Layne Staley.Brings it back to the Alice roots by himself with the way the lyrics catch on to the riffs, wich when compared to his other songs from the first degradation trip didn't seem like he could do that well.Above all this cd has some better songs added to the original, which make it worth the buy.(He does what people wanted him to do earlier, he goes back to alice roots in a close way.)
Free Music Review: Maybe the Best New Album I've Heard in 5 Years Hit: 5 Stars
Aside from Dirt, AIC never really released a concept album and even then one could argue that "Dirt" is merely a series of songs on a related topic (heroine addiction) that are not tied together in a coherent way. As good an album as Dirt is, Degradation Trip is better. Not only is it coherent the album as a whole seems to tell a story.
Musically, Cantrell is at his best. He broods, he jangles, and the vocal harmonies are nothing short of staggering. There's not a bad song on this album. People who are not into "hard rock" (whatever that is... music is music... who cares if it's Jerry Cantrell or Mozart if it moves you) may not find this album appealing, but they probably will not be reading this review either. If you like AIC and you're on the fence, do yourself a favor and by this album. If you're looking for new music and you are ok with fairly heavy stuff, chances are this album will knock your socks off.
Free Music Review: Finally, Jerry Cantrell's completed epic... Hit: 5 Stars
The original release of Cantrell's Degradation Trip was a single disc containing 14 of the 25 songs he wrote for the album. Now, Roadrunner has chosen to release the entire two disc set that Cantrell originally envisioned when he wrote the album. The results are outstanding. The tracks from the previous release are all here, as well as a bunch of new songs which are really good as well. They don't sound like rejects. Most of the new material is just as good as the original songs. My favorite new tracks are Owned, Pro False Idol, Pig Charmer, the instrumental Hurts Don't It, and the closing ballad, 31/32. The entire album fits together extremely well and feels far more complete then the original release. If you liked the original, you should definitely check this out. On the other hand, if you didn't like the first release, then you shouldn't even bother with this. I think it's an amazing album, but it's not for everyone.
