Free Music Notes for Degradation Trip Volumes 1 & 2

Free Music Review: Glorious Fungi
Hit: 5 Stars

This album should be rated up there with some of the greatest of all time. I bought the shortened original format and enjoyed that, but the extended version rocks. I have loved Chains since I got a copy of We Die Young from my cousin who lives in Seattle, and i must say that Degredation Trip 1&2 is the only answer out there for Chains fans. When I heard the opening vocal line for Psycotic Break, I was amazed, but nowhere as amazed as I was with the break down in Spiderbite, right after the "...spun monkeys on a railroad track.....", then it crushes you with this KILLER vocal harmonization that is totally reminiscent of Chains.
Jerry is definitely the most under-rated songwriter and guitar player. Too bad Roadrunner decided against pushing this album harder than they did. Tell your friends to get this.

Free Music Review: Different from Boggy Depot.
Hit: 5 Stars

Well, I'll make it simple. If you like the new A. In Chains you'll love this album. If you like Boggy Depot you'll also love this album.

The album it's a cathartic exercise mixed with amazing musicianship. Cantrell surrounded himself with Trujillo (now in Metallica) and Bordin from F. No More (Chris DeGarmo contributes on one song). Cantrell sounds more daring and confident in this effort compared to B. Depot, more "evolved" and willing to take chances (his singing shows it). This is the album (double) it was intented to be done at the beginning, so if you think that the second disc is a filler think again.

As I told you, if you're into the new AIC be ready to add 2 more discs lo listen to because you'll like Degradation Trip 1 & 2, and believe me, this is a fact.

Free Music Review: Perfect. If you like Jerry Cantrell, a MUST HAVE!
Hit: 5 Stars

Wonderful compilation, worth every cent. Glad I didn't waste money on the 1-disc set, because the extra songs are wonderful. This CD set tells a painful, soulful, and beautiful story that can only be written by someone who's lived it. The songwriting is the best stuff JC has ever written, even including the AIC stuff. Although I believe it was written before Layne Staley's death, there is so much on the discs that seems to be a premonition of that event.

There's something for everyone, from hard rocking "Bargain Basement, Howard Hughes" to soulfully slow "Solitude" to even a couple country/western songs "Gone" and "31/32". If you liked AIC, especially for their veracity and variety, you will LOVE this 2-disc set. I know I do.

How he'll top this, though, I can only wonder.

Free Music Review: I love it...what else can I say?
Hit: 5 Stars

I was so happy to hear that Degradation Trip was finally being released in its entirety. I went out and bought the double album as soon as I could, but people that may not know much about Jerry, or Alice In Chains may not want this as their start. Think of the original Degradation Trip as a "light" version. Light, but incomplete. That was what the record company wanted you to hear. It was a great album on its own, but hearing the rest makes it so much better. This "trip" is the complete one. Why settle for less? Less is not more in this case my friends. If you are the rabid AIC/Jerry fan, get this. If you aren't, you may want to start with #1, b/c a double cd set does get overwhelming. But, if you new fans are patient, you will find this album is indeed, incredible.

Free Music Review: Jerry Cantrell is Brilliant!
Hit: 5 Stars

Finally we actually get the masterpiece as Jerry himself intended. This is a remarkable 2 CD set, if you liked the first release, this is a must have. I have been a AIC fan for a long time, and absolutely love their music. I believe Jerry is one of the most gifted musician/songwriters in the industry today. Like many others out there, I was inspired to pick up the guitar 9 years ago after hearing AIC, and there is no better honor to a musician than learning and playing the songs they have written, which I love to do. Degradation Trip is full-on honest music by an honest man. It doesn't get any better than this, from the chunky riffs to the haunting melodies this is the most complete package a musician can offer. Keep em coming Jerry, you're the man.
