Free Music Notes for Don't Let GoFree Music Review: Super JGB! Hit: 5 Stars
A brilliant Jerry Garcia Band gig from a golden era is documented on this indispensable double CD set. This is as warm, gentle and funky as '72/'73 era Dead, although this particular show is from '76. The "Sugaree" which opens proceedings is one of the very best performances ever, maybe the definitive version! Jerry's voice is sweet and blends especially well with Donna - they do a wonderful version of "Sitting Here In Limbo", another all-time favourite. John Kahn's bass-playing throughout the show is as good as Phil Lesh (the best bass guitarist ever!). And Ronni Tutt is simply marvellous. Keith's old-time piano is incredibly versatile - so many American music traditions flow through (jazz, country, blues).I urge everyone to get this!
Free Music Review: How sweet this is. Hit: 5 Stars
OH! this is so very tastey. I've got it playing in the background, first listen. There was a difference between the Jerry band and the Dead that went beyind the music. It was the feel. A Dead show was a big party, Jerry Band was a few good friends hanging out, sharing something special. This cd just gives that warm fuzzy feel one might have felt at the Warfield or any Jerry show anywhere. God I miss Jerry. If you like the Dead but you've never heard the Jerry Band live before, buy this cd. If you know the Jerry Band, even more reason to buy it. The jams are great (no songs under 6 minutes). Jerry is on, Keith is on, it's got Elvis's drummer and Donna even sings in key. :-)
Free Music Review: Classic Garcia Hit: 5 Stars
Release of Jerry Garcia`s "extra-curricular" work is long overdue. This CD contains some of the finest melodic performances of his career. The combination of Jerry`s frail, sensitive voice along with his soothing, enticing guitar notes makes one long for days past when one could purchase a ticket for a Garcia Band concert for $5 and hang out on a pier in Asbury Park with a few peace loving Dead heads from Toronto, San Antonio, Jersey City, and who knows where else...enjoy some good food and a whole lot of good music. To the new breed of Dead fans...You are in for an incredible musical treat..."You shouda been there!"
Free Music Review: Must have!! Hit: 5 Stars
Such a high quality recording is a must have for Garcia fans. Crisp quality makes this live recording worth buying. With Keith on keyboards the songs have a familiar yet different feel for us deadheads. Without the rest of the Dead on Sugaree, TLEO, etc.. it is distinctively Garcia Band in style, great guitar work and tight accompanyment to go along with sweet jams. And yet Keith and Donna bring that 77 feel to much of the CD. Not as mind blistering as the JGB with Mearl, Ozzy, or Melvin, but considering the quality it will no doubt receive many spins in my CD player. E
Free Music Review: A Review from a long-time fan Hit: 5 Stars
Living in Frisco in the 60's and 70's I got to know the Dead's music well. I followed the Dead on and off for about 20 years and later the Jerry Garcia Band. I stuck with the music through thick and thin, and in the process gained a pretty critical ear. With that in mind, I have to say these Discs are phenominal. The recordings are popular among traders, but it is now great to have them available on CD's and in such high-quality. These discs provide an accesable entry into the world of Jerry that I'd suggest to new fans as well as veteran dead-heads.
