Free Music Notes for Legend (Original Soundtrack Recording)Free Music Review: THIS IS NOT THE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK Hit: 1 StarsTHE ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK WAS DONE BY TANGERINE DREAM. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR "IS YOUR LOVE STRONG ENOUGH"----WHICH IS SUPPOSE TO BE THE MAIN THEME SONG FOR THE MOVIE, DONE BY TANGERINE DREAM WITH BRIAN FERRY---WELL, IT AIN'T HERE. VERY DISAPPOINTING. A BIG WASTE OF MY HARD EARNED MONEY.
Free Music Review: Well Why Can't We Have Both? Hit: 5 StarsI saw Legend with my brothers when i was younger and had a BLAST!! a year ago, i had begun the search for the soundtrack of this bit of nostalgia. once i found it i was of course expecting the Tangerine Dream music, but i got an unexpected surprise: a beautiful, lush orchestral score by the guy who wrote the great music for Poltergeist and "The Secret of N.I.M.H.", Jerry Goldsmith! the moment i heard his music, i defintly thought that this is exactly what the movie was missing! i mean for it's time, it was a cool movie for those who appreciate fantasy stories, but in retrospect i think it could've been cooler if we had Tangerine Dream songs AND Jerry Goldsmith's score. They should re-release this movie with both scores!...it's just an idea, but you never know! ^_^
Free Music Review: Brilliant!!! Hit: 5 StarsI love the 'reviewers' who cry like babies for the 'original soundtrack'. This IS the original soundtrack as Ridley Scott intended it to be heard. Deal with it.
While nothing is wrong with the Tangerine Dream soundtrack, THIS is the better soundtrack. Very moody and ethereal. It sets a much better mood and doesn't 'date' the film like the other soundtrack does. Ridley Scott was right to choose Jerry Goldsmith for the score. HIS vision was much better than that of Universal's who cut the film differently for the U.S.
Want the better soundtrack? This is it
Free Music Review: Goldsmith has name recognition, but no FAIRY MAGIC! Hit: 1 StarsI don't understand why the Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack for Ridley Scott's Legend is being force down our throats. The film version I saw in the movie theater, and on television was the American release version of Legend with the Tangerine Dream score. I am sorry, the Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack leaves me cold. There is no fairy magic in his score for the film.
Of course, the best movie soundtrack ever, is the Bernard Herrmann score for Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451. Now I understand they are in the process of remaking the movie classics of Fahrenheit 451 and Logan's Run. There is also now a sequel in the works to the 1931 Todd Brownings' Dracula with Bela Lugosi which is set 20 years or so in the future.
If the Jerry Goldsmith version of Legend was the one I saw when it was first released, that would have been the END of it. I would NOT have fallen in love with the movie. I would have NEVER bought the 2 disk dvd, and NEVER have re-watched it endless times. When Legend was first shown on television, I video taped it, and almost wore out the tape playing it over and over again. So if the Goldsmith soundtrack score was what I saw in the theater, I would have walked out, and never looked back. I don't find the end music to his version touching, or anything like that.
Sure, this is the "director's cut" version, but TWO BIG THUMBS DOWN for its score. It SUCKS! It leaves me LIMP and COLD! i would have never crawled in bed with this movie and fallen in love with it. There is no enchantment or any tapestry of great movie magic in it for me. The only way, I have watch the "director"s cut" version is with the volume on "MUTE!"
I think this is being pushed on us, and the Tangerine Dream score remains out of print so the used price remains high. Just look at the used copies of the out of print Mary Martin's 1960 dvd color version of Peter Pan, for 200 to 300 dollars for something that it is more expensive to print the dvd paper cover than produce the dvd disk?!?!? Come-on, these people who are holding on to the available copies of stuff people really want. Then they go, and jack the price up just for the holidays. I have been for a long time a Tangerine Dream fan, and the only one of all of their albums that they have ever made is not available. This is their score for Ridley Scott's American version of Legend.
These people who think that Goldsmith's score is "Brilliant," shows a Remarkable Facet to his Talent must be among the same folks that think the Olive Garden is an italian restaurant, or listen to American Idol to hear great music. My parrot can compose a hundred times better score than the version done by Jerry Goldsmith. Since she was a baby, she has been a music afficanato. She understands rhythm, tempo, and melody, etc. And at least she is closer to the small hidden world of fairies because her ability to fly.
Free Music Review: Uh, no, it's not by Tangerine Dream . . . Hit: 5 StarsBrilliant score by Goldsmith with strong nods to not only French, but British impressionism. I love the early 80s synths, too, FM and analog. The recording is gorgeous, mixing a top-notch orchestra and choir with splashes of electronic spice. Nice.
For those poor souls who got so excited about the CD that they neglected to see who wrote it, yes, it's by Jerry Goldsmith. I have no problem with the TD score, which is what I saw the so-so film with (well, mostly so-so because of the Tom Cruise miscasting), so I've only heard the Goldsmith score AWAY from the film. It stands on its own. As for you souls who didn't bother to read before buying, hey, you own it now. Give it another listen. Don't think of it as the score to Legend (I don't), but a great piece of music in its own right. No carping. Enjoy.
