Free Music Review: Love his new direction!
Hit: 5 Stars

I totally love the new direction that Jesse is taking with this new album! I agree with several other reviews about how this new RnB influence in his music has better allowed him to showcase his vocal skills, which i have always thought to be rather above average than the typical pop singer that can be heard on the radio.

However, I do want to comment that it does annoy me when people bash on Jesse for straying away from his pop roots..Artists are allowed to evolve in their musical tastes. Calling them "sell-outs to RnB and hip-hop"..is that a bad thing if at this point in their musical career they are influenced by this particular genre in music? If anything, I give him a lot of credit for experimenting with his new style, and I must say, he did a pretty good job in executing it with this album. It may not be the perfect album, but I do believe that it provides a solid and overall enjoyable collection of songs that successfully introduces Jesse's new RnB influence but still keeping that light-hearted, pop vibe to it. Go Jesse!

Free Music Review: Interesting...in a good way
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is very fresh and so unexpected from Jesse McCartney. The sound is much more grown up and vocally he's stronger than he's ever been. If he's going to have any staying power in the music industry, he's got to play the game of reinvention and musical evolution and he's done that very well. It was an incredibly risky move to change sounds between albums, but he's done it very smoothly. That's not to say this CD is without flaws (sometimes it sounds a little like a Justin Timberlake immatation and lets face it, there is only one Justin--- also at times Jesse has a hard time pulling off urban slang in a believable way, I mean I'm sure he doesnt use many of the expressions in his songs in his speech), but in general, its a five star effort. It undoubtedly will meet some resistance from some fans who want him to keep his earlier sound, but he can't been a Disney Channel, pop singer forever. This album reflects growth.

Free Music Review: Jesse's Departure from 'Old Style' to 'New Style'!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

When I first heard "Leavin'," I was shocked that Jesse McCartney actually did a more mainstream Pop song. I mean, we all know him as the "Beautiful Soul," Disney singer...but with DEPARTURE, he has definitely broke out of that shell, right along with label mate, Raven-Symoné, who has also released a new album which is shockingly amazing.

Anyways, back to Jesse, I love his new style, it's more grown up, and he's not over doing it...that was very important, and you can hear it in the music. I absolutely love "How Do You Sleep?," "Rock You" with Sean Garrett, and many more.

Don't get me wrong, I thought 2006's RIGHT WHERE YOU WANT ME was a great sophomore album, but this new one just hits it straight out of the ball park.

I definitely recommend this album to other Jesse McCartney fans, and people who have just started to like Jesse, ever since "Leavin'."

Free Music Review: Suprisingly, fittingly Perfect!
Hit: 5 Stars

In 2004 17 year old Jesse McCartney's debut album Beautiful Soul went platinum. Then he dropped off the radar. Yes, he put out a 2nd album but no one bought it and his record label put him on the back burner. 2008 rolls around and his single Leavin' takes over the charts reintroducing a now very grown-up 21 year old McCartney. In 2004, critics asked if Jesse would become the new Justin Timberlake. Well, the answer is no. He actually sings R&B based music better than JT because his voice is much smoother. He's not the new JT, he's the new Jesse and Departure is his best, most innnovative, most creative album to date. His songs just aren't words that tell a story, the lyrics are very, very well written. Jesse's "departure" from boy band influenced pop was a good one.

Free Music Review: Departure: An Artist's Maturity at its Best
Hit: 5 Stars

Departure. The perfect title for Jesse McCartney's latest release. As the title portrays, Jesse's music has changed from the bubble gum pop we have been use to hearing into a more mature sound. McCartney has smoothly moved his music styling towards an R&B influenced Pop record that will definitely not disappoint. Listeners will also be able to take note in the higher caliber of lyrics in the songs Jesse wrote, ultimately revealing his growth in the industry. This artist is on his way to the top with this album and countless other achievements, including co-writing one of the year's biggest singles, Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love". You won't regret buying this album today!
