Free Music Notes for DepartureFree Music Review: Dance-Pop or Bad R&B? Hit: 3 Stars
It's hard to have a good review for this CD. I'm a huge fan of Jesse McCartney, but I don't know about this new Cd. There was nothing wrong with his old style, the one seen on Beautiful Soul and Right Where You Want Me.
The change in style is interesting in one way. Songs like "It's Over," "Leavin," and a couple others, particulary the slower songs are pretty good. They have a strong dance-pop feeling with a R&B feeling as well.
Then there's the rest, like "Rock You." They are horrible. He sounds like he's ripping off Justin Timberlake (who sucks by the way), and degrads his very strong vocal talent. Also, he would never talk like he does sing on some of these songs.
So, all in all, there are many good songs, but as a whole album it's kind of weak. I got this and the "Right Where You Want Me" single at the same time and I found myself enjoying the single better. And it only had a couple tracks on it.
I would suggest buying that item instead, as that version has 2-B Sides, "I'll Try," and "She's No You (Remix feat. Fabolous)". The latter is better than anything on this album of this style. There's also some live versions and the title track.
I'd highly reccomend his first two CD's, "Beautiful Soul," "Right Where You Want me," the "Right Where You Want Me Single," and the soundtrack songs, "Best Day Of My Life," and "Good Life."
THere's also a version of Leona Lewis' Bleeding Love he did, which was on a foreign version of this album. It certainly would've made this album better as it is quite good.
If you expecting the Jesse you love, this isn't it. Just get the couple good tracks and skip the rest, but not his other albums. THey are strong and solid, unlike this one.
I want the old Jesse back!!!
Free Music Review: Hit or Miss Hit: 3 Stars
I instantly became a fan of Jesse's evolution after hearing Leavin' on the radio because I hated the teeny-bopper pop music I normally associated him with. I thought this album had so much potential but after hearing the other songs, they were either a hit or miss for me. I think his slower songs like Leavin', It's Over, and Told You So are awesome and are appropriate for his voice. His attempt at the fast hip hop songs on the other hand were a risk he should have avoided. His attempt to sing high like Justin Timberlake sounded too forced like in Not Your Enemy. Also, in some of the songs the lyrics paired with the music sound awkward.
I like this new direction and look he's going for, but I wish all the songs on the album had a good blend of pop and R&B in it like Leavin' to make the album as a whole more consistent. There's no medium on this album. I either love the song or can't stand it.
Free Music Review: Wow. Hit: 3 Stars
When I first heard "Leavin" about two months ago, I was like "wow", Jesse McCartney is going for a hip hop sound which I didn't mind because I love hip hop. I really like a lot of the songs on his album. He's really grown as a singer and an artist. His lyrics mean a lot more but I also think that some of the tracks were just thrown together without a lot of planning. I despise the song "Rock You". It really degrades him as a vocalist. It's very annoying. I'm not a big fan of "Makeup" either. But that's just me. I like his slower songs. It's a good CD and I think it's worth the buy but it would be a lot better without the two songs above.
Free Music Review: Generally surprised with this cd! Hit: 3 Stars
I did not expect to like this cd but was really surprised with Jesse's voice and the maturity of the songs. "Makeup" and "Freaky" are pretty much teen fillers which I always skip. On the other hand, "My Baby" "Leaving" and "Relapse" will have you dancing in your car, while his vocals shine in the emotional "It's Over" and "Not your Enemy". Would I buy the new 'Reloaded' edition? Probably not... but that doesn't mean I haven't given the cd some heavy rotation.
Free Music Review: Amateur Justin Timberlake music!!! Hit: 2 Stars
I'm sorry, but Departure is quite a disappointment. The lyrics don't sound as original and fresh as his last album. In my opinion, his best album so far is "Right Where You Want Me." His voice and the whole sound of all the songs are wannabe Justin Timberlake tunes. He can't pull off what JT has on his current album. Jesse, as a big fan, I'm really not happy with this album. You should stick to rock pop because that's where your voice really belongs! I hope the next album doesn't sound like nails scratching across the chalkboard.
