OH, MY GIRL by Jesse Sykes and her fine band is turning into one of my favorite CD's of the decade. It's one of those ones that you just keep returning to over and over again. Others have mentioned the Cowboy Junkies, Mazzy Star and Chris Isaak, and I'll second those influencs, but what this reminds me of is a folk-rock marriage of Portishead and Crazy Horse. The title track, TROUBLED SOUL and THE DREAMING DEAD are classics of slow building tension fired with some fine guitar pyrotechnics. The music has a timeless quality and the tunes will haunt you long after the disk has stopped spinning.
