Free Music Notes for Songs From the WoodFree Music Review: Their very best Hit: 5 Stars
Jethro Tull has had many albums in their long career. Most artists who last that long have an album that stands out from the rest.
Aqualung is probably their biggest seller and most popular.
I personally like to listen to Songs from the Wood. When Ian Anderson did this CD he was at the top of his game.
This album contains: Songs from the Wood, Jack in the green, Hunting girl, Ring out solstice bells, Velvet green and my personal favorite, The Whistler, which includes a very lively piccolo.
The flavor of this release is Celtic. Personally I love Celtic music, especially the way Jethro Tull does it. If you like Tull you need to get this one if you don't already have it.
Free Music Review: A Great Collection of Songs Hit: 5 Stars
Songs from the Wood has to stand up as one of the best albums by anybody, and is surely one of Tull's best. The album offers one great song after the other. The bonus tracks are definately worth the price of admission. Once again the level of playing and production are top shelf. A very infectious album...the melodies and lyrics stay with you. Luckily I got to see Tull at Madison Square Garden during this era. To see and hear many of the songs played live was wonderful(as well as some songs from Heavy Horses). Any Tull fan who wrote a negative review for this album should revisit it. Many Jethro Tull albums improve with time like a fine wine! Cheers.
Free Music Review: excellent remastering! Hit: 5 Stars
I have listened to it all in every format and this is some great remastering! for once.In response to the reviewer asking if it is possible to botch the earlier cd pressings - Absolutely! But the difference was the technology. 16 bit to 24 bit to SACD to DVD-A with 6 layers to show off more depth in the music. Give us a break! Are you still using the old wind-up gramaphone? This is one of the best Tull albums out there! Don't be fooled by people who guess at their reviews. It is my favorite Tull album as a whole. If you like Tull at all then this is a must have!! Go on, be a man, surprise yourself.........
Free Music Review: I love to Walk in the Woods! Hit: 5 Stars
What an amazing album! This is more than just incredible music, it reveals another world full of ancient spirits, magical forests, and Celtic folklore and rituals. The complex relationship between Mother Nature and mankind is also explored in "Jack in the Green": "Does the green still run deep in your heart, or will these changing times, motorways, powerlines, keep us apart?" I guess the jury is still out on that one! The musicianship on this disc is simply superb. Tull was at the absolute height of their powers on this release, which very well might be their best and most satisfying album. No Tull collection is complete without this cd!
Free Music Review: Jethro Tull At Their Bucolic Best Hit: 5 Stars
Although there are many great records to choose from, this remains my favorite Jethro Tull album. I may be biased because I discovered the band in the Songs From the Wood/Heavy Horses phase of their variegated existence, but this album is worth having, regardless of what vintage you like your Tull, or whether you only know the band from their radio hits and want to explore them further. "Cup of Wonder" rocks. "Ring Out Solstice Bells" is a holiday season rock & roll standard. "Pibroch" is the real masterpiece on the album, getting better and sadder with every listen. After almost 30 years, this is still great music.
