One of my roadies copped this double disc set back in '02 ... Jill was still beaming from the success of her 2000 debut, "Who Is Jill Scott?"
If you loved that album, you'll love this one.
Everybody knows Jill is the real deal. She can sing better than all but maybe a pair of female artists out today and she knows how to sell a performance.
The Live versions of many of her songs off her debut are on this set.
Perhaps the most gratifying and entertaining aspect of this offering is the fact that you'll listen to her sing, knowing all the words along but you'll be blown away by the crowd reaction!!!!
I think I enjoyed trying to imagine what the crowd was reacting to as much as her entertaining, off-center riffs on some of her best studio work from her debut CD.
I really do think this is for Jill Scott fans because if you haven't heard her debut or sophomore LPs, some of her humor and commentary captured in the live performances on this set will be lost on the listener.
Highly recommeded LP.

As we all should know, Jill (not Gil) Scott is one of best artist in the music biz today. This CD is live and I am not even disregarding the fist CD (Also, the next best thing). I would reccommend that anyone who is looking for some good music, buy this cd. Not to mention the second CD has a really nice poem on it.

I was a fan, but I am now a devotee of Jill Scott. She is the most innovative and soulful music artist to come around in a very long time. In my opinion the only one who comes close is Erika Badhu.(Who like Diana Ross has taken an unusual voice, alluring sensuality and big eyes and turned it into a successful career) This CD is simultaneously erotic, inspiring, humorous and soulful.
Ms. Scott has a very expressive voice that has a heavy bottom range and yet has the ability to soar to mezzo soprano when necessary. It seems apparent that she has had some formal vocal training. This artist is able to engage her audience with spontaneous banter and admonitions to participate fully in the concert. She even giggles and squeals when her largely female audience anticipates the lyrics they know so well.
With her talent and down to earth persona Jill Scott should carve out a long term presence in soul, r&b and even some crossover pop; if she chooses. This girl is a serious triple threat. She sings, she writes and she oozes sensuality with a natural beauty that exudes from the right place; inside/out.
My only disappointment was that the entire project wasn't live. That would've made the project perfect. If you're tired of canned, pre-fabricated and electronically generated music with overly produced background vocals give this a try. It'll take you back home. Put your feet up. Get a hamhock sandwich and some sweet tea. 'Cause Jill Scott will lay it down for you. This is hot. Buy it.

Soothing, refreshing, and inviting are some of the first thoughts that came to mind after listening to this album. Everything from the lyrics, her amazing vocal ability, and band Fat Back Taffy are very essential to the beauty of this project. I have been a Jill Scott fan since day one and will continue to be forever. The lyrics to her songs are so inspiring and real. This album exemplifies the true meaning of music and raw talent.
Jill Scott's voice is so angelic and pure. This album is full of knowledge, grace, and some of the best singing that I've ever heard in my life. Songs such as "Sweet Justice" and "Gotta Get up" are among my favorites. The spoken word entitled "The Thickness" is true, real, and deep.
I recommend this album to all music lovers and especially the sistas. You will be blown away by the mesmerizing sounds of from your own experience with Jill Scott.
