It continues what was begun with volumes I and II...music to dance to...music to bop ya head to...music to chill to...music to (as Jill herself says) "smoke a tree" to...lol. Jill Scott lastest project was well done. I enjoyed every song. It was like I was reading her personal diary, with a great musical background.

Jill used to be a little-known performer but seeing the 200+ reviews for her latest release, it is safe to say she has arrived. The Real Thing (in stereo) is by far her best work. I knew from the cover that it was going to be sassy and real. (I know we're not supposed to judge by the cover, but come on. She's sassy.)
If I had to think of one word to describe Jill's music, it would be 'onomatopoeia' which is when the word imitates the sound it is describing. Now Jill is no imitator; she is completely original. Her songs have a tenuous relationship with their subject matter. The music needs the lyrics to exist. Jill often sings about sex; listen to "Crown Royal" and see what I mean.
I had this on while I was cooking in the kitchen, and my mother was uncomfortable - that is when I know for sure it is going to be some of my favorite music.
