Free Music Notes for The Real Thing: Words And Sounds Vol. 3Free Music Review: This woman is "GOLDEN" Hit: 4 StarsJill Scott never disappoints! Based on her lyrics and her demeanor, one can imply that she is a woman of intelligence and dignity; that dignity always reflects in her lyrics. "The Real Thing" is a very honest LP. Jill really does a lot of unique things with her vocal instrument and I really respect her for doing that. I appreciate her innovation. This album has a couple of up-tempo tracks, but it's mostly inundated with ballads and slower numbers. As a unit, this is a very solid album and easy to enjoy. In short, this is the "real thing", and "ain't nothing like the real thing baby!"
"Hate on Me" was the first track released to radio and music listeners ate it up! They loved this track and it received a great amount of air play. It took a few listens to really draw my attention, but now I eat it up like mostly everyone else! The way her voice and the beat intertwine is magnificent brilliance! The song is about people disliking you no matter how you act or what you do for them. "Crown Royal" stirred up lots of positive controversy. This song was on so many MySpace pages that it's not even funny. The sexual undertones are some of the most creative I have heard in some time. Also, the melody is sheer perfection! This track is worth the price of the album! "How It Make You Feel" and "Only You" are also solid tracks, though weaker if comparing with the rest of the album. "Wanna Be Loved" is one of the highlights because Jill's delivery is great as are the production and lyrics. I really enjoyed this and even added it to my iPod.
If you take a chance and listen to this album, you will not be disappointed. R&B fans will have this CD in their decks for a very long time. 4 shining stars for Jilly from Philly.

Free Music Review: Jill gets straight to the point with this one!!! Hit: 4 StarsI always admire Jill's ability to stay consistent. She never disappoint you with each album. Now, we all know it's hard to repeat a classic album such as her first one, and I constantly try to preach to people that you have to change with the times but at the same time don't change your music! Jill does exactly that with her third installment which I feel is better than her last effort (not by much) but her second album took me longer to get into than this one did. On with the review now, I don't need to say much about her flawless singing abilities, here she comes on point with every sound, tone, and highs and lows, I mean her voice can't be critisized with a straight face!! The material is what you focus on and its not the same "lovey-dovey" Jill we all come to know and love but a more raunchy, "speaking in codes", holding nothing back Jill that may suprise you.
I like the intro "Let it Be" followed by a demanding "Hate on Me" with horns blasting in the background gives that hip hop feel. Commercial driven "My Love" and "Whenever your Around" attracts attention to the casuals of coarse. My personal favorites is "Insomnia" and "Only You" with flawless production and smooth sound play. The cd ends with a bang with (could've been longer) "Breath" and "All I" it just shows you how effortless Jill is display her Realness. "Crown Royal" for the freaks any one!! Some short add libs could've been left out like "Celebicy Blues" and I wasn't feeling the overproduced "How it makes You Feel". However, great third effort from one of the most consistent artist in neo-soul!!
4 stars. Come on!!! It's Jill Scott!!
Free Music Review: .....get your bruce leroy on mama! Hit: 5 Starsshe's on fire....from the beginning that starts w/Who is Jill Scott, to Experience Jill Scott 826+, the classic Beautifully Human (by the way if anyone knows where the remix to Cross My Mind off of Beautifully Human can be found, please let a sista know) to Collaborations and now the noir comeback - The Real Thing.... The Real Thing reminds me alot of Who is Jill Scott as far as it's darkness....i love it, i cry to it('my love'), relax to it('only u, insomnia) i think as i listen to it(how it make u feel).... she is gifted w/knowing how to tap into the infinite possibilities that music and lyrics have to offer...and she delivers. Check out her latest, Jill Scott live in Paris...the deluxe version contains the live CD....alot of female artists have come out w/new projects this year...and uh....none of them, none of them holds a candle to this Sista! i can care less how they get to platinum status as fast as they are getting there...Hidden Beach needs to make a more greater effort to promote the music of This Jazzy, Hip-Hop, Opera-singing, Poetic, Rock Chick Diva!!!!!!! she badddd.....she supa-baddd....she has said, and i agree, that she got her Bruce Leroy on....like cleopatra jones, she could getcha straight!!!!!!
