Free Music Review: Speakeasy + 50's Noir Flick = Jill Tracy

I bought this on a whim, while searching for Eenor (of fame with Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade). It seems that Eenor was part of the instrumentalists on this album, what the description neglects to say is that he only performs on "Pulling Your Insides Out". After finding this out, I brought a negative outlook to the listening of the Album. But I must say i'm very suprised, Jill Tracy and her coven create this wonderful atmosphere of love with evil intentions and its meaninglessness. Its quite sexy, great mood music. Plus, the ragtime-esqe musical accompanyment with her vocals is something i haven't heard anywhere in popular music. Everyone I have lent this album too has nothing but good things to say about it. One of the better albums on the "Indie" genre. One note, there are no electric intruments used, just Jill's voice, a double bass, precussion and on one track a yali tambour(turkish origin, think fretless banjo)Recomended for:

Everyone longs to immediately dump whatever they hear into a genre. Are we all just secret marketing execs., catagorizing and collating? It is just human nature I guess, to wish to equate something new with the familiar. But what if there is no set bin in which to neatly place the newly discovered sound? I guess one must create a new category. If I were to do so, for the latest music from Jill Tracy, I would call it "Macabaret." A twistedly sexy blend of darkness and ancient beckonings. A whisper in your ear from an unseen siren. Lovely piano and strings throughout this album make it a wonderful piece to slip into the CD player as the sun goes down. Each song is a little composition with something to smile about. Jill is something of a sultry, feminine and stylish version of Nick Cave with a little Tom Waits thrown in for fun. I LOVE this CD. This is a very interesting CD. I've only listened to it a few times, and have enjoyed it each time, but there is one song that stands out, high and above the rest. 'Evil Night Together' has to be one of the tastiest treats I've listened to in a long time. That song along is worth the purchase price of this CD, and is a MUST for my favorite iPod playlist.Free Music Review: Diamanda Galas Influenced?

This album does have Character and she does play piano well, but as far as her almost broadway style voice and trying to hard to be gloomy lyrics, I would have to say check out Diamanda galas, she plays piano very well and her lyrics are way more intense and she's got a wonderful voice. Jill tracy is ok, but for a simular and much better cd try Diamanda out.
