Free Music Review: no words...PLEASE!
Hit: 3 Stars

I am a huge fan of Jim Brickman's music...HOWEVER...this new release has too many vocals...and only 1 of them is worth the disc space![ "You" ]
Why do you TRY to sing,Jim? You are very talented ...just PLAY!
This is an example of an artist trying to please too many different people...and none of them will stick with him If he strays too far from his roots.

Free Music Review: Where have I heard this before?
Hit: 2 Stars

Before I delve into this review, let me say that I really like Jim Brickman. I have the complete set of his CDs, and I just purchased tickets for his upcoming concert. So, why don't I like this new CD? Simply said, it sounds like his creative steam is running out. Compare this CD with any of his previous releases, and what do you hear? The same chord progressions, the same syncopated figures, and what would appear to be the same melodies in some spots......heck, this time around, you even hear the same nursery rhyme from a past CD. (Twinkle Twinkle, retitled as "Little Stars"...) I wish he would have taken a few more opportunities to branch out and try new approaches. On his last CD, "Simple Things", he recorded a track called "Serenade" that seemed to cross over into the Smooth Jazz category with it's laid-back shuffle feel. Personally, I think he needs more of that kind of experimentation and/or new direction; doing the same thing over and over again on each CD is starting to wear thin. This is not to say that the current release is without merit; there are still a few very good tracks to be found here. He still has enough sense to include a few "radio-ready" cuts, and "You", with vocal by Jane Krakowski, is a worthy addition to his list of hits. Another highlight is "Course of Love"; the orchestration found there is reminiscent of a David Foster album and is quite good. However, those are pretty much the highlights. If you own his other CD's, you'll swear you've heard the rest of this collection before.

Free Music Review: Stick to the piano playing
Hit: 2 Stars

I own all of Jim Brickman's CDs, but I must finally admit that I've about reached the end of my tether. Not only is this latest CD less than 40 minutes in length -- a crime for the price of a CD these days -- but much of that is wasted. I buy his CDs for his absolutely beautiful piano playing. What he must not realize is that he says so much more through his instrument than he could ever say through his lyrics. Granted, nothing on this album is as cloyingly awful as A Mother's Day on his previous effort, but the beauty of the CD is interrupted every time a song with lyrics begins playing. As for his choice of artists: All-4-One?! I almost hate putting on one of his CDs because I have to program out so many songs, which doesn't leave very much when there's less than 38 minutes to begin with. I would rejoice if he would release a CD full of nothing but his work on piano, sans lyrics; only then would I not mind paying for a CD that is barely longer than the time I stood in line trying to pay for it.

Free Music Review: Same old, same old
Hit: 2 Stars

I'll admit that I have been spoiled by so many great recordings of Jim Brickman that my expectations are high. However, this CD doesn't do much for me. Several of the songs sound way too familiar, as though he re-recorded the songs just to sell another CD. The CD lacks a personality of its own. I'll probably use it as backqround music when I have guests over.
