Free Music Notes for My Romance: An Evening With Jim BrickmanFree Music Review: Jazzy New Age Hit: 5 Stars
Excellent music for evening reading and study. In addition, it is also prefect for evening cuddling. Should not miss this collection.
Free Music Review: Another crowd pleaser from Mr Brickman Hit: 4 Stars
"My Romance" is a crowd-pleasing CD that will probably fly off the shelves, and deservedly so. It's so refreshing to see an artist who actually tries to create MELODY, and who doesn't rely on any studio trickery or gimmickry to make his tunes marketable. Sure, some of the tunes are simplistic, but a lot of the best songs are. (Hey, the guy can actually READ music, unlike a couple of other keyboard artists I could name.....) In addition to the now-classic songs, "Valentine", (with a wonderful Olivia Newton-John vocal) and "Love of My Life" (sung by Donny Osmond, also wonderful), there are 5 new tracks, most notably "The Love I Found in You", where Jim makes his vocal debut on CD. (Unless you count "Rainbow Connection" from his last CD, but that was a bonus track, included only on certain copies). Guest appearances by David Benoit and Dave Koz are also highlights of the disc. My only reason for docking it one star is due to the usual record company trick with "live" albums: leaving off major songs in favor of saving them for the video version. (For instance, "Angel Eyes"....) Still, this is worth the money, and a good addition to Jim's catalog. By the way, don't miss the song that Olivia and Jim composed together, "Change of Heart".
Free Music Review: Should Have Been a 2 CD Set Hit: 4 Stars
This was a well done CD. Concert versions of several of Jim's previously published songs, which are wonderfully elaborated and expanded upon, are the main ingredients here. The new songs: The love I Found in You, Glory, Change of Heart, and Circles, are all up to his usual caliber. The Love I Found, especially, marks the transition from being a pure pianist to a talented singer as well. However, this CD is not all it could have been. Compared to the PBS broadcast, it was missing several key songs. The two that immediately come to mind are Hero's Dream and Rainbow Connection. Jim still does not have a CD in wide release that includes Rainbow Connection. Also, the video, when it comes out, will also feature another 5 songs not included in the PBS broadcast. This leaves the CD version inadequate in comparison. While th emusic is good, the lack of all the music when compared to the full concert leaves this CD with only 4 stars. Five star music, four star album. If only it had been a 2 CD set...
Free Music Review: It glows with peace....and romance! Hit: 4 Stars
Jim Brickman did not shortchange his rabid fans with this sultry release, giving us no less than 37 songs. Of course, many of these sentimental piano tunes are very short, but nonetheless, Brickman delivers the goods - as usual!! I can't help but think that Brickman would fit in beautifully with some band within the metal genre, a band looking to "soften" their image and sound. Jim, get your resume out there! In the meantime, simply enjoy the relaxing and easy tunes that this legend creates on what seems like a bi-yearly basis. Seek the truth in piano - Brickman's piano!!
Free Music Review: Thank you Jim Brickman Hit: 4 Stars
As concert CD's go, this is a good one. I, personally, don't like applause interrupting the music, but this music is so good that it doesn't matter. Jim Brickman is a great musician and such a soft spoken and romantic kind of guy...it's good to hear him speak on this CD. Also, the duets are great, especially the new collaboration with Olivia Newton John. What a beautiful song! What a good CD!
