Free Music Notes for Experience Hendrix: The Best Of Jimi HendrixFree Music Review: Seattle's Best Hit: 5 Stars
"Experience Hendrix" is a marvelous introduction to the blues rock/psychedelic rock great himself, Jimi Hendrix. It's like a peppy shot of espresso, with some spices and hippie hemp milk thrown in for good measure. Hendrix is part of the great trinity of psychedelic rock guitarists--along with Jerry Garcia and Carlos Santana. He electrified Woodstock, the Isle of Wight--and was as capable of studio magic as amazing live performances. Had he not passed away in the September of 1970, who knows how else he would've revolutionized rock?
"Experience Hendrix" opens with the amazing, trippy "Purple Haze." It hooks you from the opening riff. "Fire" is as flames that consumed Hendrix's guitar at the Monterey Pop Festival. "The Wind cries Mary" is a powerful ballad. "All along the watchtower" is a highlight. It's one of Hendrix's best--it's tremendous in the studio album "Electric Ladyland" as it was when he performed it live. "Manic Depression" is powerful blues rock. "Little Wing" is one of Hendrix's most popular ballads--listening to the original is sonic proof why it has endured. There's the incredible "If 6 was 9." "Bold as Love" is one of the great classic rock love songs. "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" is another classic that's lasted. "Freedom" is an amazing ballad, with lyrics like "I want to be free to give." The album closes with Hendrix's electrifying performance of the Star Spangled Banner at Woodstock. It's fitting for the 40th anniversary of the "3 days of peace, love and music."

Free Music Review: Fantastic for Beginners Hit: 5 Stars
Hendrix elevated electric guitars to a higher level than ever. Every great guitarist has been measured by Jimi's standards and most of the new musicians today have been inspired by him.
This is a great collection which shows Jimi doing what he does best, wailing on the guitar. For someone who hasn't heard much of Jimi's work, this album is a brilliant place to start. Alot of his albums are very abstract with endless guitar solos that can be hard to get in to for a beginner, but this collection has all the right tunes and melodies to get that beginner strapped in and ready for some classic guitar rock. Having said that, there are a few songs which feature amazing solos and the casual listener will find these highly thrilling and be comfortable with them.
If you own all of Jimi's albums, this collection is a nice way of having alot of favourites bundled together on one cd. However, these days with mp3 players and computer libraries, it is easy to create playlists of favourite songs or albums and string them together. So, die hard fans of Hendrix would not find it necessary to purchase this as the collection holds nothing new.
If you are a Jimi virgin then this album breaks you in to his best work. Once you have devoured these pieces then you are ready to go out and buy the albums which feature longer, bigger, louder and better solos and visions by one of the greatest musicians of the twentieth century.
Free Music Review: 5 stars for the music... ½ a star for the idea... Hit: 5 Stars
Jimi Hendrix hated hits, hit lists and so on. He hated music being commercialized; listened to for a while and when the song is no more at the hit list people forget it and move on to the next hit. That's not the way music should be treated. But that's what's going on here. The music on the cd is absolutely great, no doubt made by a genius. But I'm just asking that who can say what were and are Jimi's best songs? Is his first hit "Hey Joe" better than "Burning Of the Midnight Lamp" or "Ezy Ryder" which are not, by the way, included at the cd. The trouble is that when listening to this cd, I can't feel the true meaning of these songs, the feeling Jimi had when he made his masterpieces. They are just songs put on a record not even caring about which song comes after which. It leaves you cold. For example, First Rays Of the New Rising Sun has a LOT of soul in it and when you listen to it, you'll be taken to another, very sweet, sensitive and beautiful world... but that doesn't happen when listening to this cd ( read my review about First Rays if you got interested =)...). Anyways, I'm not saying that the songs are bad, no way! but the idea, making a "greatest hits" -album of Jimi's song (...). No one can ever say what are his greatest hits, YOU have to decide it for yourself. But this is just not the real Jimi... this cd was made for the money. Don't give the money to them. Love, music... that's what's important. Not the money.
Free Music Review: I sadly gave my copy away Hit: 5 Stars
My mom gave a used copy of it to me as a Christmas present a while ago, and later I got the albums that all of the tracks from this album are on. This title definitely lives up to it's name in one sense. It primarily has his most popular recordings and with this album, you really do experience Hendrix. The real thing that I should mention is that this is the perfect Jimi Hendrix album to start out with.
This album begins with what is probably Hendrix's most well known song "Purple Haze," the song that got his start "Hey Joe," his one-hit-wonder by technicality/tribute to Bob Dylan "All Along the Watchtower," "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)," his classic performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner," and it even includes some of his posthumously released tracks put onto First Rays of the New Rising Sun.
Is this the only Jimi Hendrix album to get? NO!!! NO!!! NO!!! In fact, I personally prefer Jimi Hendrix's posthumously released live albums, such as Live at Berkley (The Second Set), Blue Wild Angel: Live at the Isle of Wight, and Live at Woodstock (not just the national anthem but the whole album).
Hendrix was a lot more than just the well-known songs. However, this is a great album to start out with, and it's a great way to have Hendrix on a single disc. It's too bad I gave my copy away, which is why I put it on my wish list.
Free Music Review: A true pioneer of Rock and Roll, his unique sound is missed Hit: 5 Stars
Jimi Hendrix was a true pioneer of Rock and Roll. His amazing talent and his quest for new sounds leave an impression to all who hear his music and this is 30 years after his passing...Jimi was the ultimate pioneer in Rock and Roll, never satisfied of his past accomplishments, he wanted to find new ways of expressing his ideas through music, be it blues-fusion-funk-soul or good ol Rock and Roll, he was one of the rare ones who could combine them all into a unique sound for all to enjoy...His sad passing at the young age of 27 left a void in Rock and Roll that is still felt today...If he would of lived what kind of new sounds could he have made? But we will never know...We are left to enjoy the music and sound of his unforgettable voice and guitar... This is a fantastic selection of his greatest hits. From "Purple Haze" to "The Wind Crys Mary" to "Fire" to his awesome playing of "The Star Spangled Banner", this is a CD that fans of Jimi Hendrix will enjoy and those who rarely heard his music but want to hear more will definitely want to get this CD. I highly recommend this CD to all Jimi Hendrix admirers and fans of good Rock and unique sound!
