Free Music Notes for Experience Hendrix: The Best Of Jimi HendrixFree Music Review: Great compilation! Hit: 5 Stars
This CD basically singlehandedly changed my views on what great music truly is. It was the first "album" of Jimi's I bought and have since gotten 30+ more. He is my favorite artist of all time.I already wrote a review for the CD, giving it only three stars, but I decided to give it a solid five. The reason being a greatest hits compilation of any artist could never, ever be perfect. You take what you can get. And this CD just so happens to feature most of Jimi's best songs. Some might disgrace Jimi by calling the tunes on this album "nothing but Jimi's pop songs." Some might even call you a fool for starting here (just check out a few of these reviews), but it's how I got my foot in the door. I don't regret purchasing it at all. Glaring omissions? You betcha. Machine Gun. Like A Rolling Stone. Burning Of The Midnight Lamp. Are You Experienced. Third Stone From The Sun. Hear My Train A Comin'. My Friend. The list is endless. But, as I said, greatest hits albums are never perfect, especially in Jimi's case. Start here. Go further. Get experienced.
Free Music Review: The best of the best on this CD Hit: 5 Stars
Hendrix is arguably one of the best guitarists to live, (beside jimmy page from zep?) and is a master of traditional blues and rock. If u are a fan of any kind of rock (ok maybe not that heavy punk noise stuff...) or some blues, this is a good CD to look into, especially if you haven't gotten into hendrix it touches upon some of the best aspects of his playing: Purple Haze, one of his best songs that everyone is bound to hear sometime is on this CD; Little Wing and Red House are great songs with a perfect touch of blues; and the stars spangled banner which is a good example of a master musician taking a traditional song and making it almost his own. A fellow reviewer and possibly not a hendrix fan claims that hendrix's songs are simple, and really not well written. With music emerging from the popular jazz and swing eras, a lot of songs did not need or have good writing, since they were based around improvisation. A few bands have focused some on writing but many successful ones have not, and this is only because they have excellent soloists, such as hendrix.
Free Music Review: Experience Hendrix in all his glory.... Hit: 5 Stars
My good friend Aaron first got me started on Jimi with this album, and I quickly borrowed it from him, wanting my own copy. Now, while this package is missing a few essentials, it is not at all bad (I think it's impossible for one to include everything necessary in a greatest hits set, boxsets included). Now, of course you have Purple Haze, Fire, and Foxey Lady, and then you have a trip; If 6 Was 9. My personal favorite track would have to be Voodoo Child (Slight Return), but no doubt you have your own favorite. Some of the (not-so popular?) songs such as Little Wing, Castles Made Of Sand, and Bold As Love are all awesome, and you even have a little treat with Star Spangled Banner, which also is featured on Live @ Woodstock, but it is still awesome, and remains a classic to this day. I'd have to say that if you are just getting into Hendrix, you should get this, or Are You Experienced?, or, if you don't have enough cash for those, Smash Hits contains enough classics to suffice, but you should go with this.
Free Music Review: Experience the Greatest Rock Guitar Genius of All Time! Hit: 5 Stars
This compilation puts together the core of Hendrix's well-known classics all on one CD. It is a good place to start if you are new to Hendrix and want to get a well-rounded sampling of his best music. They are all AWESOME songs filled with genius, creativity and passion- which is what Jimi's music is all about. He paints a vivid picture both with his guitar, and with his words. I was glad that they included four songs from his last album "Rays from the New Rising Sun" on this compilation as well- "Freedom", "Angel", "Nightbird Flying", and "Dolly Dagger". If you are amazed by what you hear on this compilation, he made a lot of really fine recordings in those few years in the late sixties before his untimely death in 1970. Also worth checking out from Hendrix: "Axis: Bold as Love", "Are you Experienced?", among others. His live recordings are awesome also- for instance the "BBC Sessions" and "Woodstock" sessions. Experience Hendrix, he remains one of the true pioneers and geniuses of rock guitar.
Free Music Review: Hendrix the master Hit: 5 Stars
If any music lover wishes to break into the works of Jimi Hendrix then this CD is the perfect place to start. To certain uninitiated newcomers there are songs in the Hendrix repertoire that may seem daunting, both in musical complexity and in sheer length. This is where the Experience Hendrix CD comes into its own.
Hendrix contributed a massive wealth of guitar anthems to the world of rock and some of the best are on show here. 'Voodoo Child', 'Purple Haze' and 'All Along The Watchtower' being some of the best known. However this is not to say that rocking guitar solos was all that Jimi did. He also slows the mood with the more laid back 'Castles Made Of Sand', 'Bold As Love' and the beautifully lonesome 'The Wind Cries Mary'.
Jimi Hendrix's career was tragically short, spanning only 4 years. But in that time he managed to unleash some of the best rock songs ever made. To any music fans reading I have one word to say, 'enjoy'.
