Free Music Notes for Experience Hendrix: The Best of Jimi HendrixFree Music Review: "Point Your Plastic Finger at Me" Hit: 5 Stars For the ignorant reviewer who panned Hendrix ( Biz Bitter Lang) or "Mr. White-Collared Conservative Flashing Down The Street". He could play better with his teeth than those "greats" you talked about. I guess you're too "respectable", too "sophisticated" to get it. I wish Hendrix were alive now so he could join Neil on his new song "Impeach the President"... Hendrix was the Master!
Free Music Review: Hendrix Hit: 5 StarsHendrix may have been a drug attict and an unbalanced human being. But how does that take away from his talent? His guitar playing is legendary, seconded by none and equalled by few over these decades since his death. Especially now in this decade when popular music seems so watered down and shallow that we need to look back at the vibrant colorful pallette of the past. Bands like Zeppelin, Cream, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and others must be cherished.
Now onto this compilation. This is what I expected from a greatest hits collection. Songs like 'Voodoo Child', 'Purple Haze' are a staple in any collection of Hendrix, being some of his greatest hits. Songs like 'All Along the Watchtower', 'If 6 was 9' and 'Castles Made of Sand' are lesser known but are something everyone must hear at least once in life. Good collection!
Free Music Review: Fantastic for Beginners Hit: 5 StarsHendrix elevated electric guitars to a higher level than ever. Every great guitarist has been measured by Jimi's standards and most of the new musicians today have been inspired by him.
This is a great collection which shows Jimi doing what he does best, wailing on the guitar. For someone who hasn't heard much of Jimi's work, this album is a brilliant place to start. Alot of his albums are very abstract with endless guitar solos that can be hard to get in to for a beginner, but this collection has all the right tunes and melodies to get that beginner strapped in and ready for some classic guitar rock. Having said that, there are a few songs which feature amazing solos and the casual listener will find these highly thrilling and be comfortable with them.
If you own all of Jimi's albums, this collection is a nice way of having alot of favourites bundled together on one cd. However, these days with mp3 players and computer libraries, it is easy to create playlists of favourite songs or albums and string them together. So, die hard fans of Hendrix would not find it necessary to purchase this as the collection holds nothing new.
If you are a Jimi virgin then this album breaks you in to his best work. Once you have devoured these pieces then you are ready to go out and buy the albums which feature longer, bigger, louder and better solos and visions by one of the greatest musicians of the twentieth century.
Free Music Review: Yes, Hendrix was a great guitarist!!!! Hit: 5 StarsI am writing really in response to a current review by bix lang "pastafagiole". His statements are not so much a critique of Jimi's music, but more of an indictment of an entire generation which he feels was more interested in drugs, sex, and rock and roll than education, social changes or "good" music for that matter. However, from his comments it appears that he is also not very happy with the the social changes of the 60s, such as civil rights, protesting against violence/war, and also protesting against a governement which history now confirms as one of the most corrupt in modern times. It is also obvious by his "review" that he is not a great fan of Jimi's or of any one else who a part of the "morally bankrupt" 60s. This is what he says about Jimi: "he was a product of the drug infested, dumbed down culture of the civil rights era of the late 60s". Apparently, mr. bix lang feels that the civil rights movement was not needed and did not result in some much needed changes in our country and in the treatment of minorities. The guitarists which he identifies were also very great guitarists, and you don't have to be a fan of classical or jazz guitar to believe that. But I guess I am a product of that "drug infested and dumbed down culture", because I prefer Jimi. To me, Jimi and his music are the perfect example of the freedom and strength which personifies the 60s. Let's face it, you could not be dumb or weak to bring about the sort of changes which occured in the 60s. Jimi was simply the greatest guitarist ever. He had imagination, a great ear, and an enthusiasm and love for music and sound. He may not have been the best guitarist technically, but no one could emote like Jimi. But he was so much more than just a guitarist. He is often underated as a musician. He wrote some great songs, many of which are instantly recognizable and he was a fantastic live performer. As for Jimi being an alcoholic and drug addict, who truly knows exactly how much he drank or how many drugs he used. Also as for how he died, yes it is unfortunate that Jimi died such an ignoble death, but there it is. But I don't believe that his death should in any way overshadow the great music he left us. It is unfortunate that there is not more.
From mr bix lang's comments it appears that my generation disrespected everything his generation stood for and accomplished. Not so. But time marches on and society changes. He does not like our music or our world, perhaps in the same way my generation criticizes the next generation and their taste in clothes, music, etc.
mr bix lang, I am not a drug addict or sexually promiscuous. I have a college education and hold a responsible position. I pay my bills and my taxes. Yet how can that be possible, being a product of the 60s. It just shows you than an entire generation cannot be indicted simply because you don't like our politics or music.
In closing, if you love Jimi, buy this CD and every other Hendrix CD you can find. Don't listen to mr bix lang, because he is clueless and deaf when it comes to Jimi and his music. As Jimi would probably say, peace brother!!
Free Music Review: No words to describe Hendrix Hit: 5 StarsSome may think that it's kinda wierd that a teenager like myself would avidly listen to Hendrix, but who can't love him? He is probably my main guitar hero. Where would rock and roll be without his ingenuity? It would be where the Beatles were when they broke up; guitars would only be a secondary part of the music. Jimi brought screaming guitar solos into the norm for rock and roll, and his name be praised for it. Buy this CD, whether or not you've even heard Hendrix; a must MUST have for rockers and bluesmen.
