Free Music Review: Qick trip to the Islands!
Hit: 5 Stars

This is definitely the best single album by Jimmy! Barometer Soup, the title cut has one of the finest steel drum band instrumentals interlacing Jimmy's fine vocal that I have ever heard! I wish Jimmy would do more tunes like this one and set the Coral Reefers (his band for those who are not parrot heads) free to play those steel drums and carribean sounds. This song is his greatest! Follow that up with the lovely Barefoot Children In the Sand, and the album is already fantastic. The rest is just pure Gravy. Crank Up the start of Barometer Soup and people will ask you who that is! It is that good! The only albums that come close to this one is Changes in Attitudes, Changes In Lattitudes, One Particular Harbor and Fruitcakes! Jimmy is great, but I love his carribean ballads pumped full of steel drum and carefree music that rockets you to Paradise. I swear you will almost feel the sun on your back, the smell of soft salt air breezes, and sand in your toes. You'll be mentally sippng your Pina Coloda under a palm tree near crystal clear blue waters before you know it!

Free Music Review: Songs of Paradise

Im a 19 year old kid from Illinois. I say Kid cause I dont nessecarilly beleive in having to grow up. To borrow a quote from "Jimmy Dreams" "The worlds such a toy, if you just stay a boy, and thats why Jimmy Dreams." Of all my Jimmy Buffett Albums, this has to be my favorite. Remittance man, is incredibly melancholy, telling the tale of a man endlessly following the coast dreaming of what he cant pretend. My favorite Jimmy Buffett song, and there are so many great ones, is Barefoot Children. I always get a chill listening to it and Ive never grown tired of it. It is probably the best "feel good" song in existance, and it paints a wonderful picture. We spend the Fourth of July in St. Augustine Florida and because of this, "The Night I painted the Sky" has special meaning. In this wonderful song, Jimmy sings about Independance day spent in the carribbean. Awsome song. And "Jimmy Dreams"? I cry every time I hear it. This is his best album.

Barometer Soup, Barefoot Children, Don't Chu' Know... Every song on this album is incredible! I have to say this ranks right up there as possibly Jimmy's best album... (check out Banana Wind also!) Growing up in Florida the Buffet philosophy has always kept my center of gravity right where it belongs! Now I live in Guam and I watch my own "barefoot children in the rain" on a daily basis and I recall the words to his song as I savor this moment in my children's lives... and as my four year old rhymes every word he knows "again and again" I find myself havin' "Jimmy Dreams!" But the best is when my son makes big "barrel rolls" with his arms during Barometer Soup! Jimmy helps me put it all into perspective and this album reiterates the important things in life to me whether I actually hear the songs or not! What a joy when you are your best friend! Thanks Jimmy!

Free Music Review: What a joy!
Hit: 5 Stars

This CD literally changed my life. Can't explain it rationally but that's what happened. I just connected with one song like no song before or since. That song is Barefoot Children. It encouraged me out of the drudgery of cubical life and now 4 years later I am forging my own destiny as the owner of my own web design company.

I guess the whole CD is full of romance and magic, not just the music but also the cd booklet containing beautiful 19th century illustrations by R.T.Pritchett of exotic tropical destinations reached by windpower.

The title track itself is an expression of the pure joie d'vivre that Jimmy manages to transmit through so much of his music. That and Barefoot Children are my favourites but I also dearly love Jimmy Dreams, The Night I Painted the Sky and Jimmy's cover of James Taylor's Mexico.

This my favourite Buffett CD and one of my favourites by anyone.

Free Music Review: Soup Du Jour
Hit: 5 Stars

Barometer Soup is the best album Jimmy Buffett has released since 1980's Coconut Telegraph and worthy of being ranked up near top of all his albums. Inspired by the writers, artists, musicians and the melting pot culture of his adopted home, Key West, Mr. Buffett has fashioned an exquisite album. Much like the cover art, you can picture Mr. Buffett lounging on a hammock with his acoustic guitar, drinking cool drinks and spinning yarns. This marks a return to the storytelling music he made in his salad days of the 1970's. The title track , "Jimmy Dreams", "Bank Of Bad Habits", "Ballad Of Skip Wiley" & "Barefoot Children" are all sharply writing and sung in the conversational style that Mr. Buffett is most comfortable in. Barometer Soup justifiably debuted in at number six on the Top 200 and is an excellent effort.
