Free Music Notes for Far Side of the WorldFree Music Review: From an east Texas Parrothead Hit: 5 Stars
Several years ago, I took my husband, son and mother to their first Jimmy Buffett concert for my mom's 62nd birthday. We wore matching Hawaiian (authentic) shirts and even made THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS. It was one of 'those moments' in your life where all the cylinders are firing and all's right with the world...my mother even told me that the 'aroma' in the air smelled like my father's pipe tobacco! I love this new CD....it's a mellow Buffett, but I'm more mellow than 10 years ago, too! My favorites are AUTOUR DU ROCHER, LAST MAN STANDING, WHAT IF THE HOKEY POKEY IS ALL IT REALLY IS ABOUT, ALTERED BOY, SOMEDAY I WILL and TONIGHT I JUST NEED MY GUITAR. I've had the CD for a week now and think Jimmy Buffett is a national treasure. You cannot be depressed when you listen to Buffett! Twenty-five years after my first concert, I'm still smiling! TONIGHT I JUST NEED MY GUITAR is a perfect moment for any Buffett fan...he's leting us know that HE knows just how lucky he is to do what he loves and love what he does. SOMEDAY I WILL gives you hope that the promise of our youth might yet see daylight before "they gaze upon our taxidermic smile(s)." I will be enjoying this CD for a long, long time! Enjoy yourself...become a Parrothead and have a "deep moat" of fun.
Free Music Review: My favorite Hit: 5 Stars
I love Jimmy BUffett, but this cd by far is his best, i think. It has a very romantic and dreamy air to it that makes the listener dream of far away beaches and sunsets, but at the same time it's got a very happy-go-lucky, nothing could beat this type of tune to songs like what if the hokey pokey is all it really is about, and last man standing... The cd starts out romantick and reminiscent with blue guitar, mademoiselle (voulez-vous danser), autour de rocher, and savannah fare you well, and then a few more upbeat songs follow, like the two i mentioned before and altered boy and USS Zydecoldsmobile, and teh cd ends up rather mellow and chill, like that feeling you get when you're under a huge dark blue of stars dreaming about what's to come and feeling small---with the songs someday I will, far side of the world & tonite I justneed my guitar. there is one single song that I dont care for on here, which is all the ways i want you, but the rest i could play over and over forever becasue they never get old and there is a song for every mood. I'd highly recomend that anyone with big dreams of tropical places or exotic places or just an appreciation of jimmy's music check this one out... its wonderful.
Free Music Review: Fresh New Sound Hit: 5 Stars
Producer Russ Titleman has helped Buffett grow in a new musical direction. Beach House on the Moon was the first JB album that I have failed to purchase since I first discovered Parrotheadism with Somewhere Over China in 1981. For me it seemed his style was stagnating. Far Side of the World is not as salty or sandy as I would prefer, but JB is holding true to the first rule of writing: Write what you know. And what a fantastic collection of songs he has written and/or recorded. Someday I Will, an ode to dreamers, is right up there with Pirate Looks at 40 on the goose bump scale. Savannah Fare You Well, and Mademoiselle (Voulez-Vouz Danser) are better than anything Bubba has recorded since Floridays. Altered Boy, a tiki lounge, nose thumbing at convention and Hokey Pokey are solid tracks for their philisophical truisms alone. Yes, there are three tracks that I program around, but I respect the wide range of songs that he offers his audience. Without a doubt my throw-aways are someone else's keepers. Far Side of the World is far and above Buffett's best outing in many years.
Free Music Review: JB, as always, is Phantastic Hit: 5 Stars
I am 21 years old and have been a devout parrothead for 21 years. My parents always had Jimmy on the turntable when I was a kid, and I have him in the cd player at all times now. Sometimes I get angry that people only see JB as an excuse to party. He may be one of the smartest, most musically talented people ever to walk on this "big round ball". His poetic skills are unmatched and while he does know how to have fun like no one else, he also tells some beautiful stories and makes some beautiful tunes. Don't get me wrong, there is no better way to pass time than wastin' away in margaritaville, with fins to the left, eatin a cheeseburger...But this album explores more of the reflective, ballod singer that real JB Phin-atics can appreciate. I believe a true Buffett fan will appreciate this album immensely because it is awesome. Just as all JB's albums are. And we all need to remember to pay attention to this talented soul now, so someday when we are "chewin' on a honeysuckle vine", we can utter the phrase: they don't play like Jimmy no more.
Free Music Review: Open Minds Yield Great Joy with this album Hit: 5 Stars
Okay, if you wanted Volcano and Cheeseburger with different words, you'll be disappointed. But if you are a true Parrot Head, you'll understand that Bubba has ALWAYS had depth. He's a novelist for God's sake...the beauty of Buffett has always been that he can and does reach the full range of your emotions. In this work, SOMEDAY I WILL is the apex. This song speaks of the hopefulness and dreaming that has been woven from the beginning of JB's work. SAVANNAH FARE YOU WELL is a masterfully mixed song that could exist as an instrumental. ... HOKEY POKEY... provides that best catchphrase of the album "... you've only got two choices, having fun or freaking out." To those Parrot Heads or others, I offer the same choices. This album is fun, but in a different way than from what you may be accustomed. Open your mind, put in the CD and you will find that the Bard of the Conch Republic has as much to say today as he did with "Pirate" and "Changes" and the works we know by heart. Have fun, don't freak out.
