Free Music Review: Best In A While
Hit: 5 Stars

Here are some personal rules I have about Jimmy Buffett music. Never lose faith in Jimmy just because he occasionally puts out a stinker (Don't Stop The Carnival); Don't call a CD bad until you've listened to it carefully and given it the opportunity to grow on you; Expect something a little different from each offering. I rarely write a review or give an opinion on his music until I've owned the CD for several months (Barometer Soup-good, Fruitcakes-good, Beach House on the Moon-good, Banana Wind-good, Floriday's-The Best of All). However, I liked FSOTW from the get go, every song is unique and I laser burned a hole in Savannah Fare You Well, a song about relationships going bad. If you are expecting a Margaritaville redoux, you may be dissappointed, the character of this CD is more in line with his more recent offerings, that is, more story telling and less partying. There's still a taste of the Caribbean but it's now a little more mature than what most people associate with Jimmy Buffett.

Free Music Review: New but Comfortable
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm a Buffett fan from way back, this is a bit different. Some of the beats remind me of the way that Paul Simon was influnced by his visit to Africa when he put out Graceland and Rythm of the Saints. Still Paul but with new beats and methods. I see some of the same influnce with Jimmy. It's nice to have these changes album to album with Jimmy's music. Also nice is a song like "What if the Hokey Pokey is what it's All About", the adapted lyrics remind me that in this life "you only have two choices, having fun or freaking out." Jimmy's music helps me not freak out and have some fun.

I enjoy the way that Buffett let's us see into his fun. French lessons, influnce some French lyrics, flying and sailing and his travels creep into the themes. For those of us that can't do it the way he does, he has become a world viewing reporter that brings back his reports in the most pleasing music rather than dry TV shows or magazine articles.

I like it and can't wait to hear some of it in concert.

Free Music Review: Classic 'New Jimmy'
Hit: 5 Stars

As 10 year Buffett fan, first having been indoctrinated on 'Songs you know by Heart' I then got into newer stuff (Fruitcakes, Barometer Soup, and Banana Wind), and backfilled the older stuff and realized one thing. How do you classify Buffet? His work has continually evolved over his 33 albums, and this one is no different. This album is a fine mix of what has made Jimmy one of my favorites, his ability to alternate between fun/frivolous songs 9of varying genres) and more serious/thoughtful songs. JB seems to have 'grown up' a tad on many of the tracks with a heavier emphasis on his acoustic skills (Mademoiselle, Savanah, Someday I will, Tonight I just need my guitar) but also ventures into some new territory: An Enigma like anecdotal recount of his St. Barts hotel & a Zydeco song. If you strictly are an 'old school' Buffett fan, you may be dissapointed, but if you appreciate him as musician, lyricist, author, adventurer, etc. you can't go wrong with this one.

Free Music Review: New, different and very, very good.
Hit: 5 Stars

I've been a Buffett fan for about 30 years now and frankly haven't purchased much of his music since the early days with the exception of Boats, Beaches, Bars & Ballads"-- itself a compilation of earlier releases.

This one, however, stand on its own. With the exception of "hokey Pokey" (which makes a much better bumper sticker than song) and UUS Zydecoldsmobile (which is fairly obnoxious) I love this collection of JB music.

The best track on the CD is "Autour De Rocher" but, I'll admit, it took a while to grow on me. Finally the infectuous beat and the great story won me over. Now it's my favotite track.

"Blue Guitar", "Savannah", "Mademoiselle Voulez-Vous Danser", "Someday I Will" and "Tonight I Just Need My Guitar" round out the other best bets on this ballad-laden collection of JB music.

It's not just beer, pirates and margaritas anymore, but it is JB at his best.

Free Music Review: Let Jimmy Be.
Hit: 5 Stars

I waited to buy Jimmy's latest cd because I've been nervous about
how the reviews portrayed his change in musical direction. I know "A1A" is king and always will be in my book but I must say this new cd is a true winner. My first listening session was skewed by my preconceived notion of what it would sound like. I was unsure of how I felt about it. But after my second session Jimmy blew me away. It was like a mental block lifted and I could actully feel Jimmy's sound loud and clear. Just let Jimmy's music be what it is! This guy knows what he's doing and he does it well. Jimmy writes from his gut which gives this cd a smooth and fun quality. Even "Hokey-Pokey" is a good tune if you let it be what it is, fun! You can play this album all the way through without skiping a song and have total enjoyment. Bottom line, buy this cd and let Jimmy be who he is, a talented writer/singer who is here to stay!
