Free Music Review: Welcome Back From The Far Side of the World!
Hit: 5 Stars

Wandering through several different musical styles on his 33rd album, Jimmy Buffett has weaved his own special kind of magic into every track on "Far Side of The World." Buffett states that after making music for the past 30 years, "I know what works!" He backs up what he says: Far Side of the World will appeal to both Parrot Heads and the general record buying public alike. On this album Buffett bravely steps out into previously uncharted musical territory with a wonderfully mix of offerings from around the world: African-tribal, European, a hip-hop, R&B groove, new-age/country, Polynesian and Cajun all deftly produced by Russ Titelman.

Buffett's vocals are strong, his band is tight and his production team has given this album just the right touch. After years of collecting stories from his travels around the world, Buffett's boat is in and delivers the goods. Here's hoping he keeps it coming!

Free Music Review: His best since the old days.
Hit: 5 Stars

If you are a Jimmy Buffett fan as opposed to being a "Parrothead"
You will love this CD. I can't find enough words to say about it.
He's romantic, (which he seldom is on an album). He's funny, He's nostalgic. He seems to be experimenting with a new sound. But it turns out wonderfully. I love the slow songs like Mademosille, Someday I will, All the ways I want you, and Tonight I just need my guitar.

But my favorites are Savannah, fare you well. And most especially the title track, Far side of the world.

If you truly like Jimmy, you won't be disappointed in this CD.
It has found a permanent home in my stereo. Unlike the releases
of the last few years, this one has staying power!

There are two songs I don't care for. That is Altered Boy and the
USS Zydcoldsmobile. The others..I could listen to forever.

Buy this cd. You won't be disappointed.

-A Buffett fan since the early 70's.

Free Music Review: Wait for the reviews from real BuffeTT fans
Hit: 5 Stars

I would think that a "true buffet fan" would at least know how to spell the man's last name. But back to the cruise ship buffet to you, the real fans will chime in soon. This is a wonderful album, with JB exploring the styles he truly enjoys and all of which comprise his main musical influences. Long time fans have been clamoring for a more mellow, ballad-heavy album for years, and this is his response. I would rephrase one of the earlier reviews to say that if you like "M-ville" or "Cheeseburger", this one may be slow for you, but if you like "Come Monday" or JB's earlier stuff, then you will find this a refreshing change of pace. JB doesn't have to make albums to please radio-friendly unit shifters, large corporate labels, or anyone else other than himself and his legion of fans. With the freedom to open up a bit more, he's delivering his best product in years.

Free Music Review: Jimmy has done it again
Hit: 5 Stars

I confess: I'm a "parrothead"! Jimmy B. could sing the contents of the Manhattan telephone directory and I would buy (and most likely thoroughly enjoy) the CD. This new CD has been a long time coming, but it certainly has been worth the wait. There's the usual mixture ot styles, from the "typical" Buffett song ("Far Side of the World") to the poignant ("All the Ways I Want You") to the raucous ("Last Man Standing") to the downright silly ("Hokey-Pokey"). He also has the knack of taking other writer's songs and making them uniquely his own. It's a somewhat more contemplative album than most of his fans are used to having, but it seems his tastes (and talent) are continually evolving, which is what makes him my absolute favorite recording artist. I only wish his concert tickets were easier to obtain, so that I could attend and be part of the madness!

Free Music Review: Africa Day
Hit: 5 Stars

This album effectively gels a lot of Jimmy's recent past into a cohesive story, particularly in light of Don't Stop the Carnival. In Far Side, Jimmy drops the glittery stage style and goes straight to the heart of the matter, and the end result is a soul-stirring blend of African and Caribbean rhythms and melodies. He even wrote a song about the little hotel he owned on St. Bart's (welcome back Norman Paperman).

Jimmy's music increasingly reflects the wisdom that can only come with experience (age). It's comfortably nestled into life's slow lane, keen to maintain a wide-angle perspective steeped in philosophy (What if the hokey-pokey is all it really is about?).

Don't expect the shallow-but-fun pace of Math Suks and I Will Play for Gumbo. This new sound is slow and delicious, like a silky smooth clam chowder.

The album cover and enhanced-CD video are nice, too.
