Free Music Notes for Live in AnguillaFree Music Review: Essential for Parrotheads!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I have gradually gotten away from being a Parrothead after Banana Wind was released, but this one looked like a winner, so I bought it. These are some of the best versions of Buffet favorites that I have ever heard, thanks to the higher mix of the steel drums and the overall sound quality. There are also quite a few concert rarities, which gives a very fresh feel to these old songs. He covers his entire career on this one.
As for the DVD, which I watched first, it looks like a private party for the mega rich on the most expensive island in the Caribbean. Sure, most Parrotheads could afford the $100 ticket price that 3500 lucky few managed to score, but one has to be filthy rich or just plain crazy in order to have been able to actually attend this show. Thank goodness that this was recorded for the rest of us at a bargain price. This one is a no-brainer.
Free Music Review: The way Buffett music should be heard Hit: 5 Stars
Hot off 'Take the Weather with you' Jimmy has released what has to be one of his best live albums. On the island of Anguilla he meets up with a couple thousand parrotheads to sing and entertain in a way that only good music, good company and beautiful surroundings can provide. The 2-disc CD has all this classics with 'Weather With you' thrown in for good measure. Adding in Bankie Banx and a Bob Marley tune just made the event even better. To me though, the best part is the DVD. Rather than just hearing and having to imagine what it it like to be in a magical paradise with Jimmy, you get to see it all. The green waters, swaying palm trees and the parrotheads. The intro concert Jimmy does on the beach with just a couple fans around is the ultimate. Every Buffett fan stuck in cold weather needs this CD. It will warm you up and get you ready for summer.
Free Music Review: Well done DVD, CDs warm up dreary winter days Hit: 5 Stars
As a long time Buffett fan myself I agree with others that I would buy it just because it's Buffett. I probably own 30 plus cds of his and will admit that a few in the 90s were not as good as the old stuff but this one made me smile. The DVD alone is worth the price and captures Buffett charming the crowd and belting out some old classics with more steel drums. Meet me in Margarittaville another recent album was also great with quality remakes with new twists on the old classics.
I spend lots of time on the road and have listened to this album for a month, impossible to listen to without cranking it up and singing along, lots of emphasis on Carribean party songs.
If you're already a Parrot head then you need this one, if you just want to check out Buffett for the first time then this is a great starter kit!
Free Music Review: The Best Live JB Yet from Mailboat Records Hit: 5 Stars
This is great - the best live Buffett set yet from Mailboat Records (visit the website). As others have said, there is a better and cleaner sound to the concert recordings here, partly because of the open air venue and smaller crowd. Everything is clear and strong, including the steel drums of Robert Greenidge. Several songs Jimmy seldom plays make it even better. The 5.1 DVD and jewel-box packaging are top-notch too.
My only complaint is that the incredible acoustic "on the beach" performance from the day before the big concert is not here in it's entirety - only 3 of the songs are included (the last 3 on disc 2).
This is a refreshing and very relaxed and tropical dose of Jimmy Buffett - you will really wish you were there after seeing the DVD.
Free Music Review: Island music Hit: 5 Stars
WOW! Jimmy blows them away on Anguilla.
In his 'natural' environment...on a beach, maybe three or four thousand people, sunshine and lots of beer.
Super Concert, and the CD's tie right in to the DVD...one of the best concert videos EVER...shot on HD cameras!
I think he should have done MORE new stuff, and less of the moldy oldies from the 70's...but he has a formula that works.
Saw him three years ago in Key West, simply saying..."Time for some NEW greatest hits"... and he comes out with "Take The Weather With You" which has some very nice new stuff, fresh and yet familiar.
But this is his best work, ever. Wish he would do more small shows, or I could be in the islands when he plays again
