Free Music Notes for No Quarter: Jimmy Page & Robert Plant UnleddedFree Music Review: I want to be angry with these guys... Hit: 5 Stars
...for not including John Paul Jones in this unledded reunion. But it is just so good that I'm bowled over. The various permutations of banjos, mandolins, and the odd theremin set against resonant Welsh slag heaps and Moroccan Casbahs, with Jimmy Page slinging on the Ovation acoustic double neck more often than the Gibson Les Paul, Robert Plant communing with the sufis, floating on top of the orchestra, and still threatening to move to Kashmir. The Unledded duo really and truly nailed this one. I liked the original edition, but this improved sound second disc is so, so much better. It's Led Zeppelin; it's not Led Zeppelin; it's totally No Quarter. Current rotation until the next ice age.
Free Music Review: Remastering is absolutely a dream come true!! Hit: 5 Stars
The remastering on this project is night and day compared to the original issue...the acoustic guitars have a clarity far above the mush of the original release...and the more powerful electric numbers a bite and crispness also lost the first time around.
It is also wonderful to have The Rain Song added....although I would have rather had "What is and What Never Should Be" or "thank You" added instead of a couple of the new / generic Moroccan numbers....that is quibbling with a great set list that has been improved beyond imagine by this wonderous new remastering......congrats....
oh .. and Robert Plant sounds fabulous as well!!!
Free Music Review: Journey on the Orient Express Hit: 5 Stars
Led Zeppelin always loved to experiment with Oriental motifs and now here is Page and Plant with an Egyptian Ensemble, Musicians in Marrakech and the London Metropolitan Orchestra. While the music may seem over-orchestrated at times, it is rich in musical themes, foreign and familiar, building on their classic numbers to a stunning climax on Kashmir. Najima Akhtar hits the high notes Robert Plant no longer can, lending a more lilting feel to The Battle of Evermore, but Plant doesn't disappoint, nor for that matter does Page on this wonderful album. My only question is why John Paul Jones wasn't invited in on this set?
Free Music Review: No Quarter, Exactly that Hit: 5 Stars
Love this recording, I did not know that this recording existed until a few years ago, its is not on itunes and I do prefer not having to burn a backup so having a CD is good
The music is great, the originals that Jimmy and Robert did as part of Led Zeppillin are finally crafted and the newer arrangements are just as well done. The addition of Arab musicians to Kashmir adds to the exotic flavor of the tune. Love the record, buy it.
Free Music Review: Just As I Remembered It Hit: 5 Stars
If you loved this CD when it first came out, who can remember the year anymore, must have been in the early 90s, you'll love it again now that you finally remembered the name of it. I couldn't locate it in any of my local record stores or Best Buy, so I was happy to find it on Amazon. Brought back memories of seeing Page/Plant in concert. I like this version of Gallows Pole much better than the one on the box set, which I also purchased.
