Free Music Notes for No Quarter: Jimmy Page & Robert Plant Unledded

Free Music Review: Eclectic Variation Of Classic Zep
Hit: 4 Stars

Original variations of Zeppelin songs by Page and Plant. I enjoyed the change of pace and the Indian instruments etc that gave these versions a cool twist. Page and Plant still at the top of their game on this CD in my opinion.

Free Music Review: .... I LIKE MY ZEPPELIN LEDDED.
Hit: 3 Stars

When this CD was first released in 1995, I was still new to Zeppelin, and was blowing my skull off to Zep albums IV and I over and over again. I did not know much else of these guys then, but I knew I wanted more. The record store guy recommended this album (it was new, and obviously the guy knew nothing about the extreme high I was trying to aquire when I told him I was interested in hearing some more Led Zeppelin...apparently he thought I just wanted my ears to hurt; and even though the songs are generally acoustic on this set, they REALLY hurt the ears.)
Initially I would take a crap all over this album, because all it acomplishes basically is that it takes a bunch of really awesome Zeppelin tracks and turns them into saturated, recycled lameness. This album was horrible, granted I bet it would have been really cool to see the live show in person, but I cared not for the indian orchestra, or any of the "unledded" performances found on this set.
However, I cannot be so harsh to this renewed version, as it does have a little more ooomph to it than the original version. But as far as recommending it over any single Led Zeppelin album, as some reviewers here have done, I will not do. The album does little justice to the original versions. Led Zeppelin was Led Zeppelin in the seventies, after that, it was never meant to be again.
I know Jimmy Page thought that the only problem with the album was that the song YALLAH needed to have its title changed to something a little less "hippie"... so now the title to that song is different.
The sound is significantly better on this new issue, and some may like the softer sounding classics as performed by the original artists... but not me. I own it for completist purposes only. I like my Zeppelin Ledded.

Free Music Review: Don't throw the old version away.
Hit: 3 Stars

I wanted to give this the top rating and say how excellent it is, what a nice version of "The Rain Song" is included, how improved the remastering is. But I can't rave about it and have mixed feelings due to a very unethical and unadvertised change. The best new song, "City Don't Cry", was hacked in half, a fact not mentioned anywhere. Why was this done? To make room for "Wah Wah" so they could advertise a new song on the cover sticker? I like "Wah Wah" okay, but not the expense of the much better "City". It's just unacceptable to hack up a great song and take advantage of fans like that. The sad thing is if not for this botch, everything else about this is 5 stars. I don't mind the melancholy "The Rain Song" replacing "Thank You" or even the weird name change to "Yallah". The duel vocals on "The Battle of Evermore" are as thrilling as ever. "Kashmir" is one the greatest rock songs of all time. The sound quality is much better. But they blew it.

Free Music Review: What Is...AND What Never Should Be
Hit: 3 Stars

First of all, music-wise this CD is stunning, the mesh of Page & Plant combined with the middle-eastern orchestra is beautiful especially on the closing 'Kashmir'.

But the extreme editing that was created during the remastering is absolutely disgusting...omitting songs such as 'Thank You' and 'When The Levee Breaks' and 'What Is And What Should Never Be' (Found on the DVD version) although the try and compensate by providing a mesmerising version of 'The Rain Song' and boosting the sound quality drastically it doesnt do the CD justice! Hacking and renaming songs completely destroys this CD for me and so I have created my own (MP3 Version) with ALL the tracks from the remastered version (keeping the original 'City Don't Cry') providing me with the ultimate 'No Quarter' Experience

I would only reccomend you buy the remastered if you are a die-hard fan because the editing completely ruins it...it's so sad that this was allowed to happen.

Free Music Review: Plant & Page go "acoustic"
Hit: 3 Stars

Overall, this is a real good album. I like the "marriage" of Led Zep songs to middle eastern instruments & vocals. You do get a glimpse of Plant's changing voice...takes on a deeper timbre.
