Free Music Notes for Live at the Greek Album

Free Music Review: Fans should buy - others pass on by.....
Hit: 4 Stars

Don't get me wrong, this is a great live record - one of those live records that just makes you wish you had been there. However whether you like this album or not will depend to a very large extent on your views on Led Zeppelin and, in particular, Jimmy Page. If you're not a LZ fan then you're in the wrong place (alright...no doubt Black Crowes fans will have an interest in it too). But this is not an album to win over non-believers.

The LZ tracks are very faithful to the original album versions, with the added spice of serious on-stage amplification, which gives real weight to the proceedings. Chris Robinson handles the vocals with honour. That is to say, he doesn't try to sound like Robert Plant. But then to be frank he doesn't really match up to Plant either. Jimmy Page is on strong form and is clearly having a great time. The support of the two BC guitarists enables the combination to produce that wonderful 'guitar army' album sound that a solo guitarist can't replicate live.

The other tracks are fun enough, but come across more as a series of "good-time" encores.

Overall, the album is a clear must for fans. Other interested parties would do much better to try the excellent Page/Plant Unledded album.
