Free Music Review: An artistic pop gem

This is a fine example of a country pop album in the best sens of the phrase. The songs are generally upbeat, the music is catchy/punchy, with a well-done modern country rock backup, very memorable melodies and some excellent songwriting. The lyrics tell stories from the point of view of a woman who knows what she wants from life and love, and so her setbacks don't leave her totally down and helpless. Very refreshing!
The recording mix is very well balanced, given that the musicians aren't playing to stand out. That's Jo Dee's job, and of course she has an excellent voice for this kind of material. If you like this genre, it's well worth having, an artistic pop gem.

I BOUGHT THIS CD SOLELY FOR THE SONG "I WISH" BUT IT TURNED OUT TO HAVE A LOT MORE TO OFFER. I FOUND THAT JO DEE HAS SUNG A LOT OF SONGS I REMEMBER FROM MY CHILDHOOD. SHE HAS A GREAT EAR FOR SONGS AND THIS CD IS A MUST HAVE FOR ANY COUNTRY FAN. I ONLY WISH SHE HAD RELEASED A FEW MORE BALLADS AS SINGLES. THE BEST BALLAD ON HERE IS BY FAR "BURN." SHE SHOWS AMAZING VOCAL ABILITY AS SHE BELTS IT OUT.IT INSIRED ME TO GET ALL HER OTHER CDS. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR GET THIS CD. I thought this was an excellent CD! I normally do not listen to country but I got this CD in a Yankee Swap and decided to listen to it. I was not disappointed!
Was That My Life- An inspiring song that makes you think about your life. Grade: A+
I'm Alright- An upbeat, fun song to listen to. Grade: A-
Heads Carolina, Tails California- A great song about choices Grade: A
Bye-Bye- A song that shows the positive side of giving up on someone. Grade: A+
Stand Beside Me- Tells a motto similar to "If life gives you lemons, make lemonade" in the form of an upbeat song. Grade: A
Bring On the Rain ft. Tim McGraw- A slow song that I could fall asleep to, but makes you think of what tomorrow will bring. My favorite song on the album. Grade: A++
Lesson in Leavin'- A fun song that is optimistic about leaving someone. Grade: A-
That's the Way- Just a song about life, no matter how everything works out. Grade: A
Burn- Not upbeat but not slow, this is a song about achieving your greatest. Grade: A+
Downtime- A song about being single. Grade: A-
Because You Love Me- A song about being in love and happy about it. Love it! Grade: A+
You're Not in Kansas Anymore- Don't really like this song that much, kind of too country. Grade: B
Wishing Well- About how life might not always give you what you want, but you can keep wishing. Grade: B+
You Belong in the Sun- I really like this song too; it's about loving someone perfect, or near perfect. A good song for a Mother-Daughter or Father-Daughter dance. Grade: A+
I Wish- A slow song about someone leaving a relationship. Sad, but powerful. It's also sort of uplifting, because she's wishing him everything he needs in life. Grade: A++
