Free Music Review: "A New Day Yesterday Live" Is Bonamassa's "In The Beginning"

I remember the first time I popped in Stevie Ray Vaugan's "In The Beginning". I blown away by the crazy playing in "Shake For Me" and remained captivated for the rest of the album. Listening to it, I could feel the raw power of a true talent doing what he loved the most...playing the blues--albeit, with the amp up to 11. One last thing...Stevie recorded that record when he was 25.
Joe Bonamassa was 24 when this album was cut.
I got the same feeling when I hit play on this one for the first time. The riffs are tight on both the rockers and ballads, all at 108 octane. Energetic as ever, one wonders how Joe was able to pull this off before the invention of Red Bull. And while I'm a fan of Joe's entire catalog, this album has much less of the slow, artistic breakdowns that appear on his subsequent live releases and none of the acoustical song breaks--he stays plugged in for the entire show. In the end, Joe has been recording and playing long before this release, though I think this album serves as quite the artifact heralding the beginning of his solo career. The album put on display what Joe loves doing most...playing the blues--albeit, with the amp up to 11.
A side note: Ditto to the other reviews noting prodcution issues with the CD, though I ripped mine to my PC and listen to it that way. I have issues playing the CD itself, but the rip came out fine. To reiterate what another poster said, the DVD includes three additional tracks: a solo, a cover of Hendrix's "Are You Expierienced", and Steve Winwood's "Had to Cry Today" (which Joe's fan's are already quite familiar with).
