Free Music Notes for Rain (w/ bonus DVD)Free Music Review: my opinion Hit: 3 StarsI like Joe Jackson a lot. This isn't his best but not his worst. Been there, done that.
Free Music Review: Less is more Hit: 5 StarsJoe gives us great melodies and a overwhelming sound with just a trio of musicians. It takes a while to listen and then you embrase the songs.
Free Music Review: A True Tunesmith Hit: 5 Stars This CD is done to a sort of simple perfection. Nothing else is required to make these songs better. These songs are fun to listen to and beautiful. If comparisons are needed, it is a fine companion to all his great music, the work of the master musician Joe Jackson is. Enjoy.
Free Music Review: A Return to Form, A New Chapter Hit: 5 StarsIn Los Angeles, it has been cloudy, with rain showers. Joe Jackson's new album has been the perfect complement to the weather. As an admirer of his since "Look Sharp", I am glad to see he still has his teeth. From "Invisible Man", which talks about the fleet feet of fame, to real talk about relationships, "Too Tough", "Wasted Time", and "Rush Across the Road", then a real beaut to move to "The Uptown Train", every song is a gem, beautiful to hear with lyrics that put other singer/songwriters to shame. Yes, some themes are reminiscent of other JJ masterworks, still they are good to hear again. The best song on the album for me is "A Place in the Rain", its cadence and feeling evocative of rain falling. Buy it and enjoy. Peace to all.
Free Music Review: Joe Delivers Again! Hit: 5 StarsRather than write a long, detailed review of all of the cuts on this album, I'll just say that if you're a fan of Joe's work thus far, you will probably dig this album. The songs are classic Joe Jackson. Intelligent, jazzy arrangements, impeccably performed and beautifully recorded, as usual. The thing I like about Jackson's work is even though he is constantly changing and evolving his sound, there is a continuity there. No matter if it's a swing band (Jumpin' Jive), pseudo-classical (Heaven & Hell), quasi-punk (Look Sharp) or this one, it always sounds like a Joe Jackson record.
"Rain" a great album & you should pick it up without delay.
