Free Music Notes for Summer in the City: Live in New YorkFree Music Review: Quite a nice surprise for this geezer... Hit: 4 StarsI had never heard of Joe Jackson, and my excuse was "What do you expect? I'm 63 years old, for Pete's sake." My son gave this CD to me last week. As a radio DJ, he knows what's good, and as my now adult male child, he knows my own tastes pretty well. He thought I might like it. Well, I do. "Summer in the City" and "Mood Indigo" and "The In Crowd" and "Eleanor Rigby" are all songs I was familiar with, being a coot, but the new and original material on here is also fine. This is rock, pop, blues, jazzy instrumentals, R & B and a tinge of folk sensibility, all in one concert. Any real music lover who gives it a listen will find something to like here.
Free Music Review: At first I loved it. Now I LOVE it. Hit: 5 StarsI'm a long-time fan and this brings great new versions of his material and great covers of others. My only complaint is that some tracks are too short. Summer in the City, Mood Indigo and King of the World shine.
NOTE: I'm not much of a Live album fan but speaking as someone who has everything he's done this is J.J.s best.
Free Music Review: joe jackson-summer in the city:live Hit: 4 Stars "Look Sharp" and "I'm The Man" say it all for Joe Jackson. After these gems he went the same way as Elvis Costello did(who both were born same day- same year). Downhill. They sold out. But, regardless, this disc holds its own. I'ts worth the money.

Free Music Review: Something different for the evening... Hit: 5 StarsThis is an album that you will grow to love. Recorded live in 1999 it features Joe Jackson on Piano and Vocals with Bass and Drums being his only support. In this format Jackson shows how underrated he is. Although he was initially successful during the Punk/New Wave movement of the late 70's, Jackson is in fact a schooled musician who studied at the Royal Academy Music.
He performs a mixture of some of his best songs, along with some interesting covers, such as "The In Crowd" (an instrumental hit for Ramsey Lewis in the 60's) and "Eleanor Rigby". Its all done with the passion and vigour we've come to expect from Jackson and I would have loved to have been there.
Highly recommended.
Free Music Review: "SUMMER IN THE CITY" Hit: 5 StarsThis is an absolutely great live performance. I generally shy away from concert CD's, because most artist tend to disappoint when recorded outside the studio. However, Joe Jackson is almost magical when performing live. I was fortunate enough to see his concert at the 9:30 club in Washington DC. recently and I can say that it was probably the most enjoyable concert that I have attended. "Summer In The City" is simply a pleasure to hear. I especially enjoy the second half of the CD starting with Joe's version of "Eleanor Rigby", "Be My Number Two", and "Home Town". I have been listening to Joe Jackson recordings for over 25 years and this CD is one of his best!!!
