Born in a big city and growing up listening to rock music because it was the thing to do, I never really got into the music scene because I didn't identify with city/suburb lifestyle or music. My parents did not influence their children with any music styles, so each one of us followed our own music preferences. In highschool I didn't identify with any music, and life at the university I attended was too busy to listen to music on a regular basis. It was while I was in my mid-twenties that I really found myself. I was living/working in a small town near the university I attended and I found I loved country life. I lived there for eight years after finishing school, and besides work, I bought a quarterhorse after learning to ride at a local ranch. Naturally, music was always on at the ranch and it was always country music. I found a music I could identify with and have been listening to it ever since. I have been a true country music fan since the early 80's, and have listened to only country music (except for a few Sinatra and Harry Connick Jr. CD's). However, I enjoy the various artists singing different types of country music. I enjoy George Strait(the first artist I really paid attention to because of his cowboy/western style and his smooth voice), Alan Jackson(talk about smooth voice and his traditional country style) and Dwight Yoakam(because his music makes me want to be bad and sometimes I just have the desire to think about being bad. Also he has a unique voice and a rock style to his music I enjoy.) I have many CD's of other contemporary country artists as well and I especially enjoy music I can sing along to. I recently purchased the joe nichols / man with a memory CD because of an article I read in the music/arts section of our newspaper. This CD is by far the best music I have ever listened to, both music and lyrics are smooth with deep roots and meanings and I am now hooked on traditional country music forever. I am planning to purchase the first joe nichols CD and I hope to see him when he plays near here this summer. I can't stop listening to "man with a memory" and I seem to do everything better while listening to that wonderful music and voice. Please Joe, don't make us wait long for more of your music. I am truely a fan.
