If you only ever buy one Satriani album, make it The Electric Anthology. It's fantastic music that I would recommend to any classic rock fan or anyone even remotely interested in the guitar. Yes, there is some 80's hair metal shredding here, but there's also lots of beautiful, haunting pieces and ballads as well. This stuff is far from mindless shredding. Joe Satriani is the greatest guitar player in the world, and this album will prove it.
You get gorgeous, heart-felt love ballads such as "Love Thing", "Rubina", and "Always With Me, Always With You", blood-pumping rockers such as "Crushing Day", "Surfing With The Alien", and "Summer Song", the ZZ-Top-esque rockers "Satch Boogie" and "Big Bad Moon", the sexy techno Borg Sex, the adrenaline-pumping techno Devil's Slide, the upbeat jazzy rocker "Slick", and the gorgeous "Starry Night" and "Until We Meet Again". There are only a few duds to be found on this two disc set, such as Raspberry Delta-V Jam, but the great tracks more than make up for them.
