Free Music Review: SATRIANI'S FINEST HOUR
Hit: 5 Stars

Joe Satriani's self-titled album and Super Colossal album in my opinion is Joe's finest hour. The first song Cool #9 has great solos and is one of my favorite songs here, the second song If has some catchy rifs, the third song Down,Down,Down Joe plays the blues, the fourth song here Luminous Flesh Giants is like a Seattle grunge rock sounding song and is my favorite here. The other songs are good but that's all i feel about commenting it.

Free Music Review: sleepy
Hit: 1 Stars

Before I picked this up I only owned the first few albums: Earth, Surfing, Flying and the live one, Time Machine. Love 'em all. Got inspired to start rounding out the collection after re-watching my Satch Tapes video. I picked up this one and The Extremist. Extremist rocks hard. Oozes energy and vibe. This one is just sleepy. Sounds uninspired to me.

I guess Joe was going for a subdued, bluesy album. He got it. I just found it hard to finish listening to the whole disc. Played it again. No better. I guess I'm just a shallow, knuckle-dragging rocker but I need more flash to keep my attention in an instrumental guitar album, but hey, if you want to hear one of the best guitar players on the planet play with subtlety and restraint this just might be the album for you.

Free Music Review: Incredible
Hit: 5 Stars

There's not a whole lot to say. I have all of Joe's albums. This one to me is by far the best album as a whole. Very bluesy. But you can't go wrong with any of Joe's albums.

Free Music Review: More fluid axespeak
Hit: 4 Stars

OK by this point in his career your either a fan or your not. Reasons to be so would include: brilliant playing with feel; tasteful restraint combined with the ability to blaze away should he choose to do so; likeable public persona - I know that's not everybodys idea as to why they should like someones art but when so many guitar heroes seem to have their heads firmly up their backsides it's nice to see his relaxed style in interviews.

This album flows along in a similar vein to his other works, a slow burn style of playing that on this release has a little more funk thrown into the mix compared to the first couple of records. In direct comparison to Vai, Satriani uses tunings and tones that are more easily assimilated by the human ear, as opposed to his buddies more hollow sounding high pitched explorations. For me, the highlight of this album would have to be Cool #9 which is pure Satriani brilliance.

Downsides on this album would include the usual problems ofr such fare - ie no vocals though Joe gets around this one a bit due to his ability to draw out emotion from his instrument in a quite unique way. And Look My Way does have some vox on it. Other main downside would be the overly mellow nature of this album, a couple of barnstormers wouldn't of gone astray to provide some extra variety on this album.

Satch fans will love it - I'd direct the newcomer to pick up Surfing w/the Alien first. This is a low four star release but Joe will probably never put out a bad album due to his inherent taste combined with playing ability to die for. And the quality of the production jobs on his albums also makes for a fresh and crisp listening experience.
