Free Music Notes for Professor Satchafunkilus & Musterion of RockFree Music Review: One of his best! Hit: 5 Stars
Joe Satriani's new album is quite eclectic, diverse, and really showcases many of Joe's talents and his songwriting abilities, which I think are especially evident on this album. From the moment I popped it in my CD player I was instantly impressed, entertained and was definitely "ready to rock"! The extra DVD in the package is just icing on the cake, with some great moments from in the studio! The whole segment on "I Just Wanna Rock" was hilarious, especially when they slapped aluminum foil all over Joe so he looked like this robot in his song! Great stuff!
Speaking of great stuff, the music in this album is excellent and displays lots of new sounds and techniques. Some heavier songs like "Overdriver" and the closer "Andalusia" are some real treats! There are a couple slower songs like "Come on Baby" that take a bit longer to get going but are still very nice pieces of music nonetheless. My favorite songs are "Revelation", Musterion" "Diddle-Y-A-Doo-Dat" and the aforementioned "Andalusia". The last one especially is cool because it starts out with this Spanish-sounding guitar, hand claps, and an upright bass and then about halfway through cranks up into a cool rocker - a superb song to end the CD with!
In all, Prof Satch has delivered a terrific piece of work, one of my favorites right up there with "Surfing", "Crystal" and "Is There Love", among the rest, all of which I love to listen to! Can't wait to see him in concert! If you haven't yet purchased this album, I would absolutely recommend it. There is something for everyone in it without being too weird. Thank you Joe for giving us yet another wonderful work of art!
Free Music Review: Mozart of the guitar! Hit: 5 Stars
The more you hear, the more you like!
I really appreciate, more and more only real music. I dont speak about 'guitar' or voice things, but tone, note and melody are what I seek for.
Beethoven, Bach, Mozart and Satriani are for me really similar. It's good, very good music.
I don't see Satriani as only a guitarist (and don't think Satriani considers himself as a guitarist), he's a modern true musician.
He does music as Mozart was doing music but only with contemporary instruments.
When you compare others 'guitarits' with him, they are so far away musically speaking, they may produce one or two good songs but what of their entire work? They don't have the regularity of Satch albums.
And I think the master continue to improve with time. I think his 2 first albums are his worst albums and that he began doing good compositions with 'Flying in a blue dream'.
I didn't really like this last album at first. But then I began to appreciate it and now I love it (similar thing with classical music, it's so complex than at first you dont enter in the music and then...)
So maybe if I had done this review after the first hearing, I would have scored the album a 3 stars.
But I continued to listen and now I give it an excellent 5 stars. Of course it's not a perfect album (none of Satch are perfect and nothing at all is perfect anyway).
But it's far better than the other music available.
Free Music Review: Satch at his best Hit: 5 Stars
From the first moment I listened to this album, I absolutely loved it. Being a big fan of intrumental rock, I have all of Joe's albums. I can say that this album is the best album he ever did. In fact every album is better than the one he's done before. I can't think of anybody else who can pull this off. I think he wouldn't do a new one if he thought he cannot top the previous one. And by improving I don't mean improving his play, I think there is little to be done on that side. It is just better and better music. His songwriting, which has always set him apart from everybody else, has reached new levels on this album. The first two songs are Satch at his best. "Asik Vaysel" who was a Turkish homeless poet, musician and who lived at the beginning of last century, is even little known in Turkey. He could not read or write and there is little to be found about him. It is amazing how Joe has managed to hear of him and use some of his tunes on the song he has named after "Asik Vaysel", which translated from Turkish means "Vaysel in Love". I think this song is one of the highlights of this album. Five stars for the greatest guitar virtuose ever.
Free Music Review: Back to perfection Hit: 5 Stars
Any true fan of Satch will reluctantly admit that the last 2 satch releases - "Supercolossal" and "Is there love in space ?" are subpar in comparison to older albums (although they're still great instumental guitar records). And Mr.Satch has been having a tendency to sound "happier" than aggressive over the years and a lot of older fans may not appreciate this. This release however is Joe's return to perfection. This is an incredibly powerful record with all the right things that make Joe's music perfect - Melody, balance and perfection. All the songs are brilliant but the ones which I liked the most are :
Musterion - Aggressive, "mysterious" melody.
Professor Satchafunkilus - Gracious slice of insanely addictive funk.
Overdriver - Good old-fashioned guitar playing.
Revelation - One of the best melodies Satch has written.
Out of the Sunrise - Another "happy" Satch tune.
I would not give Satch's 2 previous releases more than 4 stars but this one and the rest of Satriani's discography get 5 stars from me !
Free Music Review: Strange Beautiful Music 2 Hit: 5 Stars
I fell in love with this album on the very first listen. I knew it would take a lot to top Super Collosal and Satch has done with uh...whatever this album is called. This album reminds me a lot of Strange Beautiful Music only it's even stranger and more beautiful, if that's possible. Actually, Strange Beautiful Music would have been an apt title for this release. I remember when Is There Love In Space? came out, a lot of people complained that it was nothing new and that Satch hadn't really explored any new territory. That can't be said for this album. Every song sounds fresh and adventurous. There is nothing predictable about any of these tracks. I'd say it's one of Satch's most experimental albums, but it still has some of the most beautiful melodies you'll ever hear. The track Revelation is worth the price of the CD alone. I'd go so far as to say that this CD is one of Satch's finest. I absolutely love it!!! My only complaint is that it has a ridiculously long title. How am supposed to recommend it to people when I can't remember what it's called? :)
