Free Music Review: Refreshing new stuff
Hit: 5 Stars

I have all of Joe's CDs, the first I heard was "Surfing", then "Crystal Planet", and loved them all but after a while the vibe started to get repetitive somewhat for me with his last couple releases. Till now! I listened to the new CD twice so far, and though a couple of the songs, including the chant song "I just wanna rock" were really not my favorites, I must admit they were still unique and interesting. This new CD to me is a bit different than what he has done before, and that is exactly what I was hoping for with this release. Seems that he is applying the "less is more" approach to several of the songs, which made them excellent and pleasant to listen to especially while cruising around. He seems to play
for the songs, and not just a bunch of notes to show off his amazing abilities that we already know he has anyway. I don't remember really hearing piano on much of his stuff before, and it works great here!. I very much recommend this CD.

Free Music Review: It's been two years.. Gotta make a cd!

As you can tell by the title, I'm like many others here... we love Joe but we are needing more. There are a few instances of originality here but overall it's business as usual. His last 3-4 discs are just becoming interchangeable. For most artists that would be disasterous, for Joe it's merely just below the excellence he's capable of.

Some of it may just be too much touring but even looking at the enclosed artwork is yawn inducing; a couple of pics with Joe looking around.. is this the best and most original the minds at the Satriani Camp can come up with?

I too have been a fan since Surfing and can remember the first time Crystal Planet dropped on my doorstep.. like a ton of bricks! But lately it's just been a couple of good sized rocks.

Didn't the voice box effect (ala I Just Wanna Rock) go out with Bon Jovi in the early 90's?

Free Music Review: The title spelled disaster, thankfully the songs weren't half as bad.

Not that close to the masterpiece Super Colossal is, but not so far from it either. This album is quite balanced as all Satriani's work tends to be. It has the ups, it has its downs. I just wish he hadn't been so shy in a couple of songs like "Asik Vaysel" where he experimented with sounds unusual in his works but he didn't quite got "there", didn't break into any new landscape of sound he probably was searching for and instead shied away back to his confort zone. I loved "Revelation" as simple as it is. That's the beauty of Joe, he's a master on both complex and simple, and his songs are both melodic and emotional in any kind of variety. As another reviewer commented, I'm beginning to see this trend for "crowd songs" now he kinda followed up "Crowd Chant" from Super Colossal with the new "I Just Wanna Rock". I don't critizice Joe for the quality of the song, his quirks or any corny reason why he's playing this type of song, but I do feel the track is out of place in this production. I think he should limit these type of songs to DVDs and Live Albums. Overall a very good album which sadly doesn't build up on Super Colossal's breaktroughs and shows Joe "playing it safe" once again.

I will be enjoying it for a while, nonetheless and I'll hope for a greater "revelation" of a true "musterion" of Joe's music in the near future.

Free Music Review: Professor Satchafunkanotreallyagood album
Hit: 2 Stars

Wow. I'm a longtime Satch fan and own just about everything he has put out (only because just about every release of his is stellar) I own. I've given Professor Satchafunkilus several listens now and I must say he has put out his worst album since Engines of Creation. This is a real snoozer of an album. Other than "Musterion", "Overdriver", "Revelation", and "Come On Baby" nothing really sticks out here. Some of the trademark Satch is here but it really does not help the album. Really disappointed in the last two tracks which are sure cures for insomnia; ie. "Andalusia"- excellent song title. Bad song. Z.Z. Satriani apparently is credited with playing the sax on a track or two, but I must be deaf because I cannot pick him out at all.
I can't say I'm disappointed, because not every album can be a winner, but Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock is what it is - a giant step down from Super Colossal and an average Satch release at best.

Free Music Review: It is close to Crystal Planet
Hit: 5 Stars

I have read all the reviews and believe with Satch his music is a different experience for all. I have everything except maybe some strange expensive imports. I have really listened to this extensively before giving a review. I do not have the one song from itunes so just for the 10 songs the best to me is Andalusia. Following that would be almost every song just a small amount less as incredible than Andalusia.
Personally it his best he has put out since Crystal Planet. There are many reviews which say dislikes about I Just Wanna Rock and that is baffling the song is a very good song with a sizzling solo. I wish I could understand why people think it is not up to par b/c I believe this purchase is a great Satch buy with a big variety to choose and to lead up to Andalusia, Asik Vaysel works perfect. I think Joe can play so well and fluid that it is hard to reconize how difficult or intricte his playing is to accomplish. Coming from 20 years of listening and enjoying Satch this disc is up there at the top.
