Free Music Notes for The Electric Joe Satriani: An AnthologyFree Music Review: Great Anthology By A True Musician's Musician Hit: 5 StarsTHE ELECTRIC JOE SATRIANI is a great anthology by guitarist Joe Satriani, who started out by teaching guitar to such greats as Steve Vai and Kirk Hammett. However, once he began recording, he outshined both, drawing from influences as diverse as Eddie Van Halen, Joe Walsh, Dick Dale, Robin Trower, Al DiMeola, and Steve Morse, as well as Clapton, Beck, Hendrix, and Page. Although Satriani is very gifted musically, he never forgets to have an incredible amount of deep emotion in his playing, which is rare for highly technical guitarists. There's talk that he's putting together a group with vocalist Sammy Hagar, and I look forward to hearing it. In the meantime, you have these tasty nuggets to savor.
Free Music Review: Not to be missed Hit: 5 StarsThere isn't a song on this Anthology that isn't good. If you are new to Satriani, then this album is a great place to start. I love this album and listen to it all of the time. I plan on buying any new disc Joe releases.
Free Music Review: Anthology Hit: 5 StarsA nice collection of his best tunes from the first decade and a half. Half of my first CDs of his are scratched and worn. If you're new to Satriani, he was an innovator, and his style has developed significantly over time, from a funky shredder to a much more soulful and tasty style.
Free Music Review: Great (but not quite exhaustive) Representation of Joe Hit: 5 StarsSatch has accomplished so much in his career that fitting the highlights on a single disc would be impossible. However, 2 CDs is just about right and he really picks a great collection here. I think most of us could fill up a 3rd CD with songs we think should've been on here, but there probably aren't too many complaints with what did make the cut here.
One of the top reviews here kinda bashes Flying in a Blue Dream (the album, not the song) a bit... good grief, I could listen to that CD day and night! In fact, I'd say somebody new to Satch should get this and Flying in a Blue Dream... then move on from there if they're truly hooked.
