Free Music Notes for Global a Go-GoFree Music Review: INDEED Hit: 4 Stars
I think this CD is great. Infact, I think it's better than Rock art and the X-ray style. If you're reading this review, I don't need to tell you who Joe Strummer is... and I probably don't need to tell you that he's been exploring all sorts of music genres as of late. What you probably wanna know is, "Are these songs any good?" Well, in my opinion, yeah! First of all, the opening track, Johnny Appleseed is catchy as hell. It could easily be a hit on the radio. (Although no radio station will ever play it) And the electronica inspired Cool'n'Out is as rock'n'roll as any Clash tune. I also like Bhindi Bhagee, Gamma Ray, and Mondo Bongo. The CD kinda loses steam towards the end there....but it's still pretty good. It's worth the money. So buy it fool!
Free Music Review: Joe Speaks Loudly If You Listen Hit: 4 Stars
The 17:00 min. version of "The Minstrel Boy" is worth price of admission alone. People who cut it down are obviously not familar w/the songs' history nor Joe's intentions by including it.Here is a sample of the old Irish tunes' lyrics: The Minstrel fell! But the foeman's chain Could not bring that proud soul under The harp he lov'd ne'er spoke again For he tore its chords asunder And said "No chains shall sully thee Thou soul of love and brav'ry! Thy songs were made for the pure and free, They shall never sound in slavery! A comment on war? the freedoms music provides? a politcal comment by Mr. Strummer? All of the above? Why don't you listen again, and use the 17:00 you consider "fluff" to think about it, Mr. Edward Saboley?
Free Music Review: Go Joe! Hit: 4 Stars
This album is as good as the last Strummer album, although I agree that it is not quite as melodious. Borrowing rhythmic motifs and stylings from the music of other cultures, Strummer continues to demonstrate his musical versatility and his uncanny ability to translate these traditions into his own unique sound. What's especially nice is that the old Strummer/Clash front man that we have always known and loved does not get lost in the newly-acquired stylings - through it all, Strummer has a knack for keeping the old punk-rock edge and making the music meaningful. I'm Diggin the New- don't know about you!
Free Music Review: the voice of the clash with fresh music Hit: 4 Stars
This cd sounds like the clash but with the musical styles that mick jones used with his band BAD. Which is a good thing. Although the clash made a great record with london calling, they were never able to pull it all together on a consistent track by track effort again, until now. Strummer as an elder statesman leading a band that plays all different genre's well has made for a nice sounding record. The anger is gone, or below the surface, and the artist comes out. Check it out.
Free Music Review: a great message Hit: 4 Stars
I love this album, but i give it a 4 star rating because i was waiting for the 3rd Mescaleros album to come out and expected the ultimate. I've seen an obvious progression in his music and will miss terribly that there will be no more Strummer music. I recommend this to anyone who wants to hear Joe Strummer's message, and his voice was truly one of a kind.
