Free Music Review: The Best CD. Ever.
Hit: 5 Stars

I loved the Clash, and Joe Strummer once again suprises us with a beautiful CD. 'Silver and Gold' is one of my favorites. He sang this song without knowing that it would be the last one that he recorded. I love 'Coma Girl' also. It rocks, it teaches us a story, but mainly: It rocks! I know that I'm a young person (most 12-year-olds don't even know who Joe Strummer is!), but I love the deep feeling you get when listening to 'Ramshackle Day Parade'. That one is definetly up there with my favorites.

It hurts me, though, to listen to these songs. I never had a chance to see the Clash live; I wasn't really alive when they were around. But Joe Strummer decided to continue on. He gave us all a chance to relive the Clash. Or, as in my case, live it for the first time. And then he died. I'll never see him live, listen to any of the members of the Clash live. I may be just a kid, but I know the meaning of respect. And I respect Joe Strummer. I cry as I write this, for I mean every word I type. 'Streetcore', by Joe Strummer, is a must for us all.

Free Music Review: Perfection!
Hit: 5 Stars

Although Streetcore was completed and issued after Joe Strummer's untimely death, it was the next scheduled Mescalero's album and, as such, not something hobbled together from leavings and false start demos.
Whether or not Joe's non- involvement in the final sound of the album has anything to do with what we hear is a minor debate at best- although worth noting as the production here is much more forceful than previous Mescalero's outings; Joe's voice is front and centre where it should be in all its fiery and heartfelt intent; the band's playing seems more fluid than we've heard before- not hard to understand given how soon this was released after Joe passed.
Rather than go into the merits of each track- and there are many outstanding numbers here, best to say that this is the album we always knew Joe Strummer and the Mescalero's always had in them.
If you haven't really listened to much latter Joe Strummer, and only know his work through the Clash, this is the album to get.

Free Music Review: Streetcore
Hit: 5 Stars

Streetcore is an album and a musical genre in the sense that it is an idea you think when you make music. According to Joe Strummer, "Streetcore is a distillation of all the most extreme psycadelic music, showing lenghty knowledge of reggae, dub, funk, blues, jazz, folk, hip hop." This album is amazing, and I guarantee that if you pop this into your CD player, sit down and listen to the entire album straight through, you will feel better. At the end of the last song, you will feel this certain aware calmness. You will feel at peace. For whom music is an anti drug, Streetcore is a clear moment, and for those whom music is an irresistable drug, Streetcore is a pillowcase full, an expression of rythm and color and every single emotion in one moment. Streetcore is a murmur from a departed friend. Fortunately, once put into a CD player, that murmur becomes more. Thank you, Joe, and thank you, Mescaleros, because you guys don't get nearly enough praise as you brilliant musicians deserve. Peace be with you.

Free Music Review: Best CD i bought in a while
Hit: 5 Stars

i never felt obligated to write a review of anything i got from amazon. well let me tell you, being a die hard clash fan and purchasing most of the post-clash music (B.A.D., strummer/mescaleros, Havana 3am). i have to say this is one amazing disc. it is by far the best music that any member has done since their bitter breakup. i firmly belive that this is what the clash would/could have been if they stayed together. if you want song descriptions, read some of the other reviews, but its a shame we will not hear a followup cd that would be built off of this

"coma girl", "get down moses", "arms aloft", and "all in a day" are all great rocking songs, "long shadow", "redemption song", & "silver and gold" touch his soft side, esp. "silver and gold". its funny he sang this song not knowing his near future death. its enough for you to reflect on your life and his.

every music fan should have this disc

Free Music Review: long live Joe
Hit: 5 Stars

The thing that struck me most about this release is how absolutely accessible it is. Not the world music adventure that Global was, and not quite the new techno that gave X-Ray Style a lot of its vibe. Great tunes, and the disjointed nature of it shines through wonderfully. Get Down Moses is my fave track, just try not to bounce along with it. Coma Girl is great, and might have been a hit, had Joe been around to promote it. The choice to cover Marley on Redemption Song was a bold one (who hasn't covered that tune?) but it comes off just as great as you would expect, very heartfelt and earnest. The Johnny Cash track is even great, especially when Joe was really not the one meant to sing it. Overall, it's a tremendous CD, a tremendous sendoff for a tremendous man. We are all better people for Joe having been alive to share his vision with us. Rest in peace.
