I AM a John Barrowman fan and I am not thrilled with this CD. Great tunes, so-so arrangements, but was anyone telling John he was occasionally off pitch during this session. His phrasing is way off and he's closing his throat on every 'e' syllable. He is capable of doing much better work. This whole set sounds as if it was done on one take and there was no one in the studio to point out the miscues and missed notes John was making. What he did on this CD would be okay at a party around a piano, but for a professional sounding CD, it's almost embarrassing. At times, his phrasing sounds like a student at a vocal lesson trying to form each vowel properly with the lips, but doing so, John tightens up his vocal cords and substitutes noise for notes. He needs to either change vocal coaches or get one. Sorry, John, this is a huge disappointment. Go listen to your sound of "Marry Me A Little" on the 'Putting It Together' DVD and compare it to the harsh tones of this CD...quite a noticeable difference. |
