Free Music Review: LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!
Hit: 5 Stars

I love the film.. love the soundtrack. The soundrack really makes the film. (I have never seen the show- just the film of the same name.) The film is really funny in parts.. sad in others. I just really love it! Have seen the film several times, but did not have the soundtrack until now. (I know that this is the off-broadway show soundtrack- is pretty much same thing as film, with just very small differences.) I could've purchases the movie soundtrack, but really like the Wicked Little Town show version A LOT- better than film version. I've heard the show version on a streaming music site. Wicked Little Town is my favorite song of the film. There are 2 different versions of this song (probably because it is just so awesome). There is Hedwig's version, and then Tommy Gnosis' version- I am partial to Hedwig's version. It may even be my favorite song ever. That very last scene of the film (where Tommy is singing Wicked Little Town) is very sad and made me cry the first few times I saw it. AWESOME!!!! I was excited to find out that David Bowie actually co-produced the Los Angeles production of the show.. I have been a Bowie fan since I was 12 yrs old. This is a great soundtrack for Bowie Fans such as myself. Very gram rock-ish. =+)

Free Music Review: Beautifully emotional lyrics with great music to match
Hit: 5 Stars

I saw Hedwig with Michael Cerveris and like the others could not wait for this CD. It is such an extension of musical theater with lyrics that are powerful, wild and poetically beautiful, Just listen to Wicked Little Town and its reprise and the tenderness, sadness, and survival areincredible. Broadway would die for such emotion. I am in my forties and have followed musicals since my teens. I never imagined liking Hedwigbut it is mesmerizing. A touching finale and the score as a whole just illustrate and prove the shot in arm Broadway needs. Like the others, I listen over and over. This little show and its score are a theatrical powerhouse and may be the great musical that ends the millennium. Powerful, exciting and very touching. Don't let the plot turn you away. Give this score a try. And why the PArental Advisory?????? HAIR had worse lyrics 30 years ago. Rent makes much bolder sexual references. Someone goofed in applying this unneeded warning to Hedwig. I have 2 teenage sons and they love the score.

Free Music Review: Dickon, is that really you?
Hit: 5 Stars

The John Cameron Mitchell you might know as Dickon from the Original Cast of "The Secret Garden" has certainly created a different role for himself in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Mitchell wrote the book and stars in the most amazing thing to hit the stage in years. Stephen Trask's music and lyrics are both catchy, intelligent, and they absolutely rock. Not even "Rent" can keep up with this stuff. I can't say enough how much this show improves with every listen. If you like Velvet Goldmine era rock with a dose of Rocky Horror, the Pixies, and Lou Reed, then buy this disk and see what all the fuss is about. This also stands alone as a great alternative rock album. (Tell somebody they're listening to a musical and watch them stare at you in disbelief.) The only negative is that there is no synopsis included with the lyrics. The whole story is a little vague, but don't let that stop you from trying it. Awesome!

Free Music Review: Outrageousness done up with melancholy brilliance
Hit: 5 Stars

A cult hit on the New York circuit several years ago, "Hedwig" proved to be only as successful as its leading man/woman, in this case John Cameron Mitchell(when Ally Sheedy took over, the talk wasn't so hot). Thank God then that we have this document of the raw, wild, blistering original stage performance of Mitchell(with songs by Stephen Trask, the unsung co-star). Not even the movie soundtrack can compare to this cast CD, with vocals torn from Mitchell's delightfully schizo psyche(he's bruised woman, battered man, deflated diva and hollow lover--all at once!). "Wicked Little Town"(and the reprise)has got to be one of the most beautiful, personal laments committed to record, and the imagination and beautiful power of "Origin of Love", with its history altering images, ranks a close second. I don't see how anyone could not come away from this musical journey with his or her eyes opened and heart completely filled. An EXPERIENCE.

Free Music Review: Fantastic album... working on lots of levels at once!
Hit: 5 Stars

The show is great. No question. The album is just as good. If you want an irony filled, sharp as a razor look at musical theater, with breathtakingly catchy songs (glam rock idiom), great lyrics (and contary to expectations you can figure out what is going on from the lyrics... East Berlin boy yearns for the perfect love. Boy wants out of east berlin. American lover wants him to get a sex change. The operation is horribly botched; the boy/girl/it is left in a Kansas trailer park; finds a new wig and turns tragedy to a sort of trumph; Boy/girl/it meets love of his/her/its life. Love takes his/her/its songs, talent becomes famous and leaves; After twists and turns boy/girl/it has show in NY; Love of his/her/its life is superstar and finally acknowledges what he took -- but suggests that nothing is written in the stars -- we make our own fate; Boy/girl/it is transcendent. This is very, very, very good.
