Free Music Notes for Hedwig And The Angry Inch: Original Cast RecordingFree Music Review: Can't wait to hear it! Hit: 5 Stars
I saw the show at the Jane Street about a year ago, and since then I have been waiting breathlessly for the CD to come out. Of the dozens of shows I saw in the past year, Hedwig offered the most by far. It is definitely worthy of the cult following it has garnered in the past few years. No matter how great the music is, however, I was very surprised to find that both Amazon and one of their competitors was completely sold out on its first day of release. True evidence of quality music overwhelming the moral majority regardless of risque subject matter. Seems like Hedwig-fever is going to be sweeping the nation, and quite soon. Get this before your friends do. :)
Free Music Review: Long Live Hedwig! Hit: 5 Stars
I have just finished listening to this CD for the first time. It is incredible! I'm especially pleased in that I chose this version over the movie soundtrack. I can't imagine the soundtrack being better. Even though I discovered this music via the movie I'm generally of the mindset that movie soundtracks have a tendency to be over-produced. Having listened to samples from both albums before purchasing I could clearly see that Hedwig was no exception. Therefore, for those of you having to make the same choice, get this one. There is no way they could have made it better than this. And from the samples I heard, they didn't. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Free Music Review: Miss Midwest Midnight Checkout Queen Hit: 5 Stars
I was listening to this in the car yesterday and I was amazed at the fact that it still makes me cry. Back in the days when this show was at the Jane Street Theater there was this website called The Hedboard, all of us crazy fans would post rants over who we thought was the definitve Hedwig. I was sure that I needed to detach from it, so when the show closed, I put the CD away. It's playing right now and I am proud to say "that the pain down in your soul was the same as the one down in mine". This is a great recording of the brilliant songs by Stephen Trask performed by the DEFINITIVE Hedwig, John Cameron Mitchell.
Free Music Review: The Story of the Origins of Love Hit: 5 Stars
I admit it; I'm a closet musical junkie. I love cheesy things that are never intended to rock in the rock n' roll sense (see Oklahoma!), but I also am a fiend for rock bravado. I found all of that in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Hedwig is beautiful whether or not s/he know it, and the strength, aggression and power shown by this album makes me feel all tingly and raw inside. I think it's high time the beauty of glam rock was embraced for all of its ambiguity and sexuality, not exploited by these pretentious crappy artists like Marvelous 3 and Trinket. Kudos to you, J.C. Mitchell... bravo and kick ass, daaahlink!
Free Music Review: Saw the show...must have the music... Hit: 5 Stars
My wife and I saw the show in Los Angeles last night. Fourth row, smack in the face center (even managed to get a little tomato on my jacket). In the performance we saw, Hedwig was played by Matt McGrath (understudy for Michael Cerveris) and we could not possibly imagine Cerveris being all that much better. Fabulous! I just ordered the CD so I can't give it an honest review, but my 5 stars are for the show. My wife was forttunate enough to have seen Rocky Horror on the stage in LA in the early 70s, and she thinks this was as unique and entertaining. Wonderful.
