Free Music Notes for Interstellar SpaceFree Music Review: indeed, the last masterpiece Hit: 5 Stars
A lot of people for some reason hear turmoil in this recording but I hear peace, even when the music seems to some folks to be very dissonant. FACT: most folk music is dissonant, if you broaden your horizens to include the entire planet. But dissonance is just a means to heat the music so it generates light and that is useful to lift the music into a Spiritual realm and that is why Trane's music is important to me. It may take you some time, but when you finally reach this music, you will hear the joy. If this music doesn't cause you to question life and ponder its mysteries, do not blame Mr John Coltrane or Mr. Rashied Ali.
Free Music Review: Not for the faint of heart Hit: 5 Stars
The thing I get from this recording is that it is pure expression. It is what happens when you dive head first into the spaces between the notes, and go beyond the dialectic of style, genre, music theory, etc. Coltrane, unlike most who attempt such heculean feats, was not searching franticly with this (despite the intensity of much of the recording). He knew exactly what he was doing. The realm beyond was, for him, familiar territory where he felt at home.
It can certainly be a challenge to listen to. But its worth it.
Free Music Review: The Best Jazz Record Ever Made Hit: 5 Stars
John Coltrane's "Interstellar Space" is the best Jazz ever recorded. In a singular burst of feeling, not a note was missed. That sense of longing that threads it's way through what many may perceive as chaos reaches from the begining to the end without compromise. The space between the drum solo starting each cut and Coltrane's horn is like a halo of genius. He died young but not before firing all of his guns at once.
Free Music Review: Takes Your Breath Away! Hit: 5 Stars
These duets are astounding. Everything is reduced to the basic element - SOUND. There are themes and there is rhythm but what counts is the flow of sound. Rashied Ali is a remarkable player deserving wider recognition (check out the Gayle, Parker, Ali CD Touching on Trane). Its hard to beleive music with such strength and vitality came from a man who in a few short months would lose a battle with cancer.
Free Music Review: Trane in space... Hit: 5 Stars
Well titled album, as it is out there. This is not your standard jazz album. Takes real attentive listening to understand the overall spatial concepts of each song. I've only listened to it a couple times and still feel like I don't have a handle on everything. So far, it sounds great...coltrane is a genius.
